New Excalibur crossbow to me!

Post by jakeinTX »

Hi All,

I sold my Horton crossbow and bought a used Exomag crossbow. Not sure of the age, it was not taken care of as well as I took care of my Horton. The limbs are not cracked so I need a new string and arrows. Can anyone tell me how to figure out when this was made? Also, what is a good string? I am going to purchase some lumenarrows to use. I am taking the crossbow to Ontario in a couple of months for my first black bear hunt.

Thanks

Congratulations on your new bow you will love the simplicity of the re curve bow and being able to maintain it your self.
You will want to get a string changer and rope cocker if you do not have one all ready , I would recommend you call Danny Miller the u.s.a service rep for Excalibur
740 483 2312 he is a straight shooter and has good prices and can answer any questions you may have.
The string you have on their most likely just needs a reserving job a good thing to learn to be self reliant it is easy to do.
I shoot the factory Excal strings and they are good will stretch with use and My Equinox wears them but a quick reserving job has them up and going again .
I keep a spare string around for good measure.
Enjoy your bow.

Welcome to the forum!! :D
From the pics it looks like you have a model with carved tip limbs...i don't know much about them but i do know you have to use a certain string. Calling danny miller would be your best option.
Good luck!

It was probably a late 90's or early 2000's carved tip model. I suggest a custom strig by "boo"
found here on the forum to handle the string chores with ease.

Welcome to the forum. It's an Excalibur so you should get many more years of use from it. New or old, I think all of their crossbows are works of art. :D

There are ways to date them by camo finish and riser
Design, but I'm not the guy with that knowledge. Someone will be able to help you out with that, That bow looks like she's in great shape! Good luck with the bears!

Hi All,

Thanks for the help. It sounds like a Boo string is the recommendation of choice for a lot of you. I am seeing a thing refered to as Cat Whiskers that i will look into some more. It also appears that Danny is the guy to call! Thanks all, its great to see all the Michiganders and Ontario folks on here. I grew up in Michigan in a small town called Croswell and went to Canada a lot as a kid. Thanks for the help!

Jake
The pre 20001 carved tip bows take the standard string. If you get a Boo string, make sure he knows it's for a carved tip bow.

Based on the camo it would be one of the first years that the Exomag was produced. I expect that 95-97, MAYBE 98 would probably catch it. It is probably 185 pound draw weight and remember to ONLY use dacron string material on it or you'll wreck those pretty carved-tip limbs.

Thanks for the reply's. I appreciate it. Ok, dumb question. Can cat whickers be gotten/added to a string for this bow if I use the dacron string?

Yes, it is cool when an owner gets involved. I am in San Antonio.
