Barebow shooting

Post by SScott »

Does anyone shoot their excaliburs without the aid of any sights at all? I used to gap shoot a traditional bow, and I wonder how well this might work with an excalibur as well. Anyone doing this or has anyone tried it?

Happy tinkering,

Gap shooting, it's focusing on the target and seeing the arrow in the shooter's periphery vision. There are different techniques or names for it, split-vision, etc. When I was shooting trad equipment in the nineties, it was looked down on by instinctive archers, but I could never just look at the target alone and be accurate.

I'm more or less curious if it could be done with a crossbow; maybe I will just give it a go some weekend and see what happens. I was thinking it might be easier since the crossbow, or at least my crossbow, shoots flatter than the longbows I own. Maybe I am bored, but I got to wondering how medieval soldiers would aim a crossbow, and this is all I can think of.
