Times up what do you do?

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

I'm sure we've all been there. Your in your stand at
last light or later and you have deer around. You can't
or don't want to shoot. How is it that you make your
exit? Do you wait them out and hope they move along?
This is something for the most part that works well for me.
I'll take an extra rope that I'll tie off to the seat of my stand
within reach. Then I'll tie it to a good piece of down fall, I'll lay the
down fall on the ground below my stand and I'll lift it and drop it until
they leave. For the most part it keeps them from looking up. There's
a good chance you'll keep them in the area, the less their educated.
That's what works best for me, what works best for you?

No matter what situation, It seems I eventually whack the tip of my thumb with the release of the crossbow string and that always sends them away. May have more to do with what i say after the fact

Had it once during rut that I had to climb down with a feild full of deer and just waited for dark to climb down. They spooked, but were back the next night.

I climb down from my tree very slowly and quietly. I sneak up on them and BANG I hit them in the head.

Coyote howl clears the food plot quickly before crawling down.

I just get down from the stand (or out of the blind) quietly and head away from them.
I have spooked a few, but usually see them again soon.

A few years ago I had a buck enter the food plot and instantly bust me in my stand. I went to where he came in and found with the setting sun I was perfectly silhouetted in a small opening in the trees behind me. I cut a small cedar, hoisted it up behind the stand to "plug the hole" in the foliage. I killed the same buck that came in on the same trail from the same stand a couple days later.

I try to sit and wait 'em out.
When they don't leave I try to climb down quietly from my stand.
Half way down I miss a step and crash to the ground below landing on my gear and rolling off into the bushes.
The horrendous noise of me crashing followed by my incessant cussing usually is enough to cause them to move along.
Then I just collect all my gear and stagger back out to my truck!!
