Trail Cameras / reviews
Just wondering which trail cameras everyone is using . Would like a real world reviews . Likes Dislikes . I currently have 4 cameras . Also have a chance to get a Stealth Cam UNit for a reasonable price
http://www.stealthcam.net/HTML/sc_unit.html
camera 1
WGI Ir 4 with external battery . Has been OK but just died . Works best over bait or food plot . Trigger is a bit slow . 1 minute delay , 30 , 60 or 90 sec video clips . Picture quality day and night has been very good . The external power source lasts forever. Have a replacement coming
Next camera I purchased is a scout guard
ScoutGuard 560 V . Ultra compact size,
Quick trigger time (1.2 seconds) 5 mp resolution , takes up to an 8 gb SD card
Color daytime pictures, infrared (black & white) nighttime pictures
8 aa batteries great battery life
programs with plug in remote / viewer
Capture multiple images (1-3) or movies (0-60 seconds) after each trigger
Programmable 0s-60m interval time
this camera is probably my favorite . has taken thousands of pictures and 0 trouble.
Camera 3
Bushnell 8mp trail cam xlt
Canadian tire had them on sale last fall cheaper than US price
Same size as Scoutguard. Case looks to be made in the same factory
built in view finder
8 aa batteries ----last forever
adjustable resolution 3 - 5 or 8 mp
day time color photos night time B&W with IR flash
will take video and still to similar specs of the scoutguard.
This camera has taken thousands of photos as well . Have had a few spells where it took a pile of photos but nothing in frame . Still trying to figure that one out
Camera 4
Spypoint FL-A
4mp resolution
REMOVABLE INTERNAL CAMERA FOR EASIER HANDLING
USES 6 AA BATTERIES
35 INFRARED LED MODULE
VIDEO RESOLUTION 640 X 480 AVI
DATE AND TIME PRINTED ON EACH PICTURE
32 MB BUILT-IN MEMORY
12-VOLT AUXILIARY POWER JACK
USER-FRIENDLY SWITCH PANEL
Just picked this one up and set it on a feed plot . Will pull the card this weekend and see how it did . I really like the switches for set up no scrolling thru menus to set things up . Fast and easy to set things up.
For overlooking trails that need a fairly quick trigger I would use the Scoutguard 1st then the Bushnell . The small size of either unit makes it easy to keep out of sight . Would not bother buying another camera with the built in View finder . Too noisy . Better to pop out the SD card and a fresh one in and view picture back in my truck using the lap top.
The only feature I would like to have now is a camera with audio . Have some good deer videos but sound would put it all together

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
I had the opportunity to work with a few last year.
Primos 35. DOA. Took it back to Bass Pro and got a Primos 46. I liked it well until it took a spell of not triggering except for up close, like within 10 feet. Don't know what was wrong, but eventually it started triggering further out. Manual says it has a 50 foot night range, but I didn't see it happen. More like 35 to 40. Used this for watching trails and a food plot in late season.
Primos 60. Used to watch a feeder. Good camera, good battery life. Never did try the video feature. Good range at night. Just don't point the Primos cameras East or West. Sunlight really messes with them.
Tasco 3 megabyte. This is the $50 one at Walmart. I bought two to use on Public land. Figured if they got stole, Oh Well. They didn't get stolen and since I wasn't expecting much from a $50 camera, I wasn't disappointed. Actually, fairly impressed. Daylight range was only about 30 feet, the same for night time. White flash took pretty good night time pictures. Also had pretty good trigger speed as most animals were centered. There were a few exceptions, but for the most part, good timing. Used them to watch trails on Public land.
Bushnell 119325c. I think this is a Walmart exclusive, but don't quote me on it. It cost $147 at Wally World. This camera has excellent battery life and I was as pleased with it more so than the Primos cameras. Excellent trigger range and good quality photo's at night and day. Probably as good of range or better than the Primos 60. Set it up watching a trail.
Wildgame Innovations IR4. DOA. Took it back and got my money back from BassPro and went to Wally World to buy the Tasco.
Stealth Cam Sniper Pro - Don't waste your money. Nothing but problems and few, darn few, pics. Used it watching a feeder. There always seemed to be something wrong with it when we went to check it. From what I see on other reviews, we weren't the only ones having problems. The few night pics we got, mostly of coon, were very poor.

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
Go to www.chasingame.com for actural in-depth, non-biased reviews. They do not sell cameras, so they do not have a "horse in the race". You will read the good and bad about customer service if or when there is a problem with a camera, as most do when they first come out of production. Trail Cam Pro also does reviews but sell the camera on the same page as the review?????
Now to cameras; I've had 4 Stealth Cams and all turned out to be bad. I now have a Bushnell Trophy Cam, which has been and is my favorite. The small size, picture quality, and battery life are the pros; it will trigger with sun to shade changes and have some photos with no game or any apparent reason for the camera to trigger. Have very few washed-out pix. I've had it for over 2 years and zero quality issues. Got this one on E-bay. I also have a Spypoint IR-A that is also very good. In comparison to the Bushnell, the performance is pretty much the same. It's just a bigger camera. Got it from Midway USA on closeout.

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
OkXbowHunter , I have had that trouble with most of my cameras . I then started pointing them towards the North . The problem with whiteout was solved . ( Ended up reading this on Chasingame forums as well
)
I use the Chasingame forum as well . Plenty of good information . But I really like to read real world hands on reviews of different products. Chasingame gets to try out the camera for however long - sometimes they may just get a bad one . If 50 different users have the same problem with a camera then there is an issue .
No one using the Stealth Cam Unit ?

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
This is why I read the reviews on Cabelas, Bass Pro, Amazon.com and other sites. I get to read reviews from people who are actually using these cameras the way I use them.Farmer wrote: I use the Chasingame forum as well . Plenty of good information . ChasingGame actually is a little biased in my opinion. I've been reading them since 2009 and I think they are more opinionated about different manufacturers than they let on.
I also find that they end up with different opinions on the cameras than those who are actually using them in field. Their "lab test" and controlled test don't equal what me and you may experience out in the field.
For example, I've been reading reviews on the Primos DPS. Most other reviews say that pictures far away are blurry. CG mentions nothing about this and all they can say is that it's a better deal than PlotWatcher.
They seem to have a problem with PlotWatcher and it shows in their reviews.
The same goes for Bushnell cameras. While a big majority of reviews I read on BPS, Cabelas and Amazon are extremely favorable, CG makes it seem that they aren't worth 2 cents.

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
I get the same feel for some of the reviews Chasingame. They have beat up Bushnell pretty bad . Mine has been a champ. Real world reviews from my friends on this forum are the ticket for me .
Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
Have a couple of the covert ca3.o, no noise,1.2 sec trigger speed,video,4 aa batts, small size very nice pics. All for under $100.00 if you keep an eye on ebay. Also, comes with a remote control to program it and doubles as a color viewer for checking pics(not video)in the field.

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
I find Chasingame reviews are negative when the cameras don't work as advertised and/or the customer service function for that manufacturer won't respond or gets defensive of their product. As for beating up Bushnell, I based my decision to purchase the Trophy Cam on their 2009 review. Read the last 2 comments about the camera which are very positive.Farmer wrote:I get the same feel for some of the reviews Chasingame. They have beat up Bushnell pretty bad . Mine has been a champ. One interesting review is on the new Cuddeback Attack cameras especially the initial warranty period was 180 days from first turning on the camera. It has since been changed.

I have a Spy-Point IR6 (for about a year now), no problems yet, about 1000pic on the same batteries and still read full power, excellent pictures and video. I also have a Bushnell Trail Sentry (for about 2 years), pics are decent but a pig for batteries.

I have a couple of Stealths that were donated to me. They go through a marine trollin battery in a month, such the juice out & get 150 pic's. Not a good brand to invest in.

Re: Trail Cameras / reviews
i use a reconyx hyperfire 600. yes they are pricey but with cameras you get what you pay for. after using game cameras for about 15 years i've learned some lessons the hard way. my first was a 35mm non-typical (that is what a cuddeback is now before mark cuddeback changed the name).I've bought 150.00-200.00 models like bushnell.. which i still use on public land. won't use my reconyx out there, and they work o.k. but eat batteries up pretty fast and you still get some blank photos but all in all work.set up the reconyx on a trophy rock this spring. forgot to change setting for feeder, was shocked when i had 3250 pics on it. still had 51% file space left(4gb card) and 73% battery life left. what you'll save in batteries alone makes it worth it. i deal only with trialcampro.com they are fast with shipping and very friendly and back their products.their reviews are unbiased. called them back an hour after buying my camera to add dessicant pellets, was prepared to add another charge to my account, but was told not to worry and they threw them in for free. ever wonder why cuddeback boasts centered subject technology? its because they have one of the narrowest detection ranges of all cameras. go to trailcampro.com and look under detection range tests and see for yourself. reconyx is made in the U.S.A. 99% of the rest is made in china. i'm not bashing cuddeback or anyother camera for that matter, one must decide what features are important and at what price range fits you. get rechargeable nimh batteries and a good charger, it will save a bunch of money in the long run. please believe me folks i don't want to ruffle anyones feathers...just one mans oppinion from years of experimenting. cameras are as much fun (almost) as hunting. have fun with yours and good luck this fall.
