Is it legal?

I'm hoping someone from MI. can answer this ?
I know MI. is an open carry state when it comes
to handguns. Is it or is it not legal to carry an open
handgun while hunting during archery season when
using a bow? I don't see it in our hunting guide! I'm
not talking having a CCW. I'd like to carry on an up
coming trip to the UP. Is it legal in your state or province?

I don't know about MI, but here in NC you can not carry ANY firearm duriung archery only season. Not even if you have CCW. Now that being said there is a caveat, if you are tracking a arrowed deer you can carry a rimfire pistol to dispatch.

They have on the books for next year to pass a regulation to allow CCW permit holders to carry while hunting in archery seaon.

Best bet is to check with a wildlife officer.

Sticking neck out here but i don't think so. Safe thing to do would be to call a DNR field office and ask. They are very friendly about answering questions. Phone numbers are listed on the Michigan DNR web site.

Really not sure any more, but along time ago I asked a DNR officer, & was told that you could not have a firearm with you while bow hunting.

The answer is no. Unless you have a concealed carry permit you are not allowed to carry a handgun while bowhunting.

"
Archery Deer Seasons
During the archery deer seasons, it is illegal to carry afield a pistol, revolver or other firearm while bow hunting for deer. Exceptions: This prohibition does not apply to pistols carried under authority of a concealed pistol license or properly carried under authority of a specific exception from the requirement of a concealed pistol license. However, a concealed pistol license does not authorize the individual to use the pistol to take game except as provided by law."

Looks like open carry during archery would not be allowed, you would have to have your CCW to be packing during archery season.

Here in Canada we are not allowed to carry at all!

Not here on MN. Against the law to have any firearm while hunting with bow. And, as my SIL learned, concealed carry during hunting season, while in the woods, requires a hunting license too if accompanying someone who is hunting.

Just contacted our DNR and was told you
can only carry if you have a CCW.

I was at a 3D shoot a few weeks back when the ?
came up. A few members stated it was legal to carry
since we were an open carry state. Bad information!
And apparently I have BAD eyes because it's clearly written
in our hunting guide!
