the four "Fs"

Post by vortex »

First bear hunt, first day, first bear harvest and first vortex harvest. Here's my story. Arrive at tree stand 1145hr Sept 17. Set up Spy Point IR-5 to video, light one of my wife's hot apple pie scented candles. All settled in and ready to go at 1200hr. After a few short catnaps and watching/listening to the chipmunks , at 1350hr, it happened. In walked a bear. At 1400hr she presented a broadside shot, I released the safety, pulled the trigger and like a missile the Beman Carbon Lightningbolt tipped with a Wasp 100g mechanical broadhead hit its mark. The bear took of running/crashing though the bush to the southeast, then turned south, then northeast crossing her previous path. After about a minute, silence, then something I will not forget, the death moan. At 1415hr, I decided to hit the ground (I know, I should have waited longer, but I couldn't). I reloaded, found a good blood trail. After about 5 min, there she was, down. She traveled about 200 meters in total, but was only about 100 meters from impact.

Something I did learn was that when a broadhead hit a bear it deflates it because when I first saw it I would have sworn on a stack of bible that it was at least a 800lb bear

Good looking bear vortex. Way to go! :)

Way to go on that nice bear. :D :D

Now that deer season is really starting to get kicked off I keep forgetting about all the other game that is (or will be) in season: bear, upland fowl, water fowl, small game, etc....

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Having no experience with bear hunting I have a question.
It doesn't look like the arrow penetrated very deep. Is that normal on a bear shot?
