five minute deer

Post by Coin Man »

The morning started out bad on the thrid day of bow season. I didn't get on my stand 'till 7:00 and had to clear all the brush and leaves around from where the summer grew.. After about ten minutes making a lot of noise breaking branches and kickin' leaves, I finally got to sit down. As soon as I sat down, I saw a deer straight across the field (80+ yrd.) thinking it was a doe, raised my crossbow to look at it through the scope, and to my surprise it was a buck! Having a hard time judging my distance in the previous seasons; this time, I had mounted a Burris Range Finder Laser Scope on my Phoenix crossbow and within a matter of minutes the deer headed straight to me. I was ranging the buck with the scope and watched it come within 20 yrd. and then took my shot. I can't believe the deer didn't hear or see me when I came in and sat for at least five min. before I took my shot.. I'm extremely pleased with my crossbow and scope/range finder setup!

Congrats on a successful hunt

he could very well of thought the sound was a couple of deer facing off.
A guy i know does not worry about the sounds of getting to the stand he frequently sees and hears deer under his stand within minutes of getting there.

They are curious animals.

people think i am crazy but i swear sometimes some noise or an unusual smell will bring them running. I had not seen anything at 9am yesterday, was gonna call it a day smoked a cigarrette and my buck came RUNNIN! had to stop him to get a shot!

Gerald, the scope is a Burris laser/scope 4x-12x-42mm, Ballistc Pix. Its like a Mil dot scope but has a built in range finder. A touch of the button and it gives you a reading in top of the eyepiece. The range is 21 yards to 800 yards. This scope was really made for rifles but works great for me. My dead-on crosshairs are set for 25 yards. Each mark below that is +5 yards up to 40 yards. My set up is the scope set on 4 power, ff string, and shooting 2216's. No more looking through a range finder and then moving to look though you scope. It's all built together. Almost forgot, hold the button down and it is in continuous scan mode. That's what I had to do on this Buck, he would not stop walking. Hope this helps!
