question about string wax, lube for the rail??

Post by skizmo »

I am new to crossbows so bare with me...I have been told and read a few conflicting things in regards to wax and lube on the string and rail.

I was told from the local bow shop to NOT put wax on my serving as it will gum up the trigger and rail creating valleys and peaks on the rail...like a ripple effect..

they told me to only use your string wax on the string..and to use a silicone lube for the rail..this was also told to me by another bow shop 50 kms away.

did some reading on CB nation I believe its called and allot of guys were using "jigaloo"...on the rail..just spray it on a rag and wipe on your rail.....I will say my rail is as smooth as ice...

whats your guys take on all this...Are there multiple ways to this.Like not the wrong way just a different way.

I use dalton's string wax...i wax the string about every 50-60 shots, the serving about every 15-20 shots. I put it on very light, it's a very soft wax and i rub it in with my fingers. I use nothing on the rail. Seems to work good for me. :)

I use jigaloo on rail once about every 75 to 100 shots & use bee's wax on my string every few hundred shots. Daltons speed wax on center serving about once every 150 shots

thanks guys...I guess im on the right track..I have been using jigaloo on my rail and BOHNING bowstring wax on my string...Im not yet sure of all the brands so I pretty much have to rely on web info or recommendations.Once I get a custom Boo string then I will use Dalton wax.

I will say that my father in law has a old crissbow (correct me if I'm wrong)...and his rail was nasty with the ripple effect from the wax...I cleaned it off for him and applied jigaloo..I never seen him so happy sliding his hand up and down on the rail..."oh its so smooth"....LoL...I it was pretty funny!

look at the instructional videos on Excalibur website they have alot of good information.they have one for "Crossbow Maintenance" that talks about this.

I just had to put a new string on my bow & I checked out the video before trying it so I had a good idea what I was doing & it was very easy & the video was helpful, better than trying to understand how to do it by just reading about it.
