FINALLY!!! (Pictures Added)
Here in Tennessee, bow season started on 9/24 and I've sat in a tree 3-4 times a week. I've seen a couple of spike bucks but about 20 yards outside my range. To say I was getting discouraged is an understatement. Usually before now I've had one in the freezer and had to keep reminding myself, "this is hunting". Yesterday morning was perfect weatherwise, 30 degrees and no wind. I got in my ladder stand about 45 minutes before legal shooting light and just waited for the sunrise. At 7:15 I looked to my right and saw a deer coming down the creek bank and thought it was a doe. My 62 year old eyes are not what they used to be. When he got closer, he looked like a fork horn and since I'm a meat hunter and not a horn hunter, he was good enough for me if he kept coming. At about 40 yards out and behind some tree limbs, he started angling toward my stand. This was looking good!! I slipped the safety off and since my bow was facing straight ahead on the shooting rail, I should'nt have to move. Well, this boy keeps angling toward my stand and walks within 5 feet of the bottom of the ladder. Dang, that's too close to shoot without standing up and I wasn't going to risk spooking him. Slowly moved my Vortex to the left and he now has started a fast walk as he senses something was'nt right. I gave him the ole "Hey" and he froze at 20 yards. Being the perfect distance for me and now broadside, crosshairs on the sweet spot, I squeezed the trigger and sent the Slick Trick his way. I knew it was a good hit and when he got about 20 yards away, his tail was tucked and he was getting "jelly-legged". He made it another 20 yards and fell within sight. Turned out he was a 6 point with a pretty good sized body. He now is part ground meat and part cubed steak cooling it in the freezer. Funny how getting that first one of the season changes the attitude.

Re: FINALLY!!!
Congrats on stayin' the course. Funny that after you get a deer down, you don't remember all those hours you put in gettin' him! That's the way it goes!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Excellent! Congrats on putting some meat in the freezer.
