OT - the corn thieves will pay

Post by wabi »

Been filling the feeder with high priced corn, and the coons have had a feast so far.
I vowed revenge and yesterday trapping (and furbearer hunting) season opened. :)

I'm blaming VixChix for posting the thread about eating the meat from the infected deer, because after I looked at the pics I woke up during the night with the "creeping cruds".
I was afraid to get too far from the porcelain throne yesterday so I made a very quick trip to the feeder area and slapped in 3 sets for coon.

This morning I took my son along for the first trap check and we had one of the bandits in steel cuffs.

Going back this evening (with my son) and make a few more sets, but I was happy with a 33% success rate to start the season. :D

It was cold here this morning, so Michael had on his outfit that gives him the ninja look with the catch pole in his hands.

Don't know about that man. Never got the "creeping cruds" from a picture. :)

Big coon. Fat from eating all that $10 corn. I never had much luck trapping coons for catching possums.

Great photo! Looks like he's got a reverse-coon look going there!

Hopefully you'll have more corn for the deer now!

P.S. Sorry about the "creeping cruds".... We've eaten meat from the deer and are all 100% :D

Wonder what kind of jerky coon would make? Crow isn't too bad, kid egged me on to drop one last year w/ .17 HMR, I made him go fetch it and we jerked the breast.

Mainly to prove a point to him, but I was curious too.

Jerk one up . . .there isn't usually too much meat on a coon, but, I bet yours are an exception.

I was told by a good source that coon meat is delicious.

I've heard crow breast isn't bad eating, but I've never tried it.

This coon was FAT. I actually had to pull chunks of fat off while skinning it, and fleshing it was a greasy job for sure.

After the case of the "cruds" I had this week I didn't save the carcass to eat this time.
Afraid to eat anything much spicier than chicken noodle soup today.

I guess you should at least leave a note in the feeder letting the other coons know that the rent is due!!

Got it skinned/fleshed/stretched and it looks like the hide is still a little blue (not prime yet). After all the work it's a shame not to be able to get top $$ for the hides, so I'm giving them a couple more weeks to prime up before I thin the ranks. Going to pull the sets this morning and feed the survivors a little more $10 corn to keep them hanging around.
Who knows? I may catch one I'll have to drag out with the tractor if I keep feeding them.
