Dad hadn't been gone for 20 minutes when a big doe came running across the ridge. I remembered dad telling me that if I ever saw a doe running for no reason during the rut, get the gun ready because a buck was probably not far behind. Dad was right! A huge buck came into the opening and I slammed him with 2 loads of 3" 00 Buck. He ran a short way and down he went.
When dad arrived with the four wheeler we tried to load him but dad didn't have the strength so we got some help from a friend of dad's. It wasn't long before we had him on the truck and off to the taxidermist we went. That's going to be Christmas Gift this year.
Dad, I really do hope that you know how much I love you. I appreciate all of the opportunities in the outdoors that you have given me from the 4 pointer that I killed when I was only 7 years old to the buck of a lifetime on friday and every hunt, successful or not, in between. I love you Dad
