Thanks for posting the link.
I knew coyotes would/could kill younger deer, but I never considered that they could pick apart a mature buck like that...

I read a quote by Fred Bear a long time ago. It went something to the effect of:
"Nature's law of tooth & claw is far crueler than any death I could ever impose."
Nothing like being eaten on while your still alive.

Makes me want to kill coyotes. Damn!
Re: Mature buck VS coyote. Must see to beleive!
We all hunt but we all strive for fast quick kill's,that was a nice buck, nature in it's raw form. I can't understand why this whole thing took place in front of the camera? Why did'nt the deer run? probably never know. At the same time I have absolute no use for yote's I'm hoping my 204 can have some fun with them this winter.

I agree that it was odd that the buck pretty much stayed center of the camera.
Someone should send this to every "Animal Rights" groups and ask them to find and charge the Coyotes with "animal cruelty"!

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Looked like he was pretty winded. In several of the pictures, he's got his mouth open from being run. Guess he picked the area in front of the camera to take a stand.
Several years ago during our early muzzleloading season in October, I heard a deer bawl and then could see/hear 2 things running through the woods in front of me about 50 yds away. There were still plenty of leaves on the trees and it was pretty thick, so I couldn't tell exactly what the 2 things were. Finally, the thing in front all of the sudden went end over end a couple of times. Whatever the 2nd thing was made 1 circle around the thing that had fallen and started to make a second circle when I could make out a patch of hair through the scope. The big 58 cal muzzleloader roared, sending a bullet into the patch of hair in my scope. I heard a yelp and everything was quiet. After a few minutes, the thing in front that had gone end over end got up hobbled a few steps and then fell down again. By this time, I could see it was a deer and was torn up pretty bad. Another ball from the .58 cal ended his suffering. Got down out of the stand and walked up there to find about a 30 lb coyote laying dead.
I hate coyotes!!!!

I have seen this stuff before, if'en you wonder how a single yote downed the deer. They run in pr's & family packs & deer run in loops/circles. The Yotes change out out but no other deer will take the chased one's place. I kill every Yote i can since i was a boy.

Re: Mature buck VS coyote. Must see to beleive!
I was hunting my acreage mid Oct. I was sitting on a stone pile in the middle of the back field when all of a sudden I heard thrashing. I looked up and saw a deer running directly at me from 100 yds away and closing fast. It wasn't until it got 20 yds away that it veered right and caught my scent. It lept and raised it's flag and when it did his entire belly was dark red, almost burgundy. As it ran it would kinda favour it's side. It too had a saliva soak mouth area and it's mouth was wide open. My friend who was hunting the bush stand 150 yds away saw it 5 minutes earlier running throught the woods right past him at 25 yds and had a coyote on it's tail.
The following weekend after harvesting a deer at 8:30am, by 9 a coyote had popped his head over the hill approx 30yds away and downwind from the deer, gutpile and my friend.
They're very ballzy in Grey County and look forward to putting a hole in as many as I can this winter.
And don't even get me started on the # of Turkeys they kill there.
Rotten buggers.
