What are you shooting at, at those distance's? I shoot 13/14 foc with 350gr stick and good from 0 to 40yds with a single xhair, it also has 95ke enough to kill any animal in North America, I don't shoot any game over 40yds and even then it has to be perfect, this is just what I know and do with my set-up, to each their own, good luck

the way i built my arrows i know they can and will get the job done at 50 yards and my bow is a exocet 200 shooting 550gr arrows....your shooting a 225 lb bow with 488gr arrows, you have no worries....just make sure you practice with broadheads at 50 yards like i do....i got my xbow shooting great with target tips and then switched to 125gr tricks and they were spot on were i aimed WITH my arrow set up, then and PRACTICED, PRACTICED, PRACTICED and then PRACTICED some more....that can not be said enough  ........bob

Thanks for the quick replies!!!

What kind of speed am I looking at with a 420 grain arrow shooting out of an Exomax with a stock string and no whiskers or anything on the string? Just an estimate. I want my Xbow to reach the 100ft. lb mark.....nothing less.

Thanks

Go to the support section of this website. Check arrow performance and the 2010 instruction manual. There is an arrow chart in the manual and it will answer most all your questions about speed and KE. The speeds listed are spot on when I compared them with my chrony. You may not have the exact weights as the chart(s), but you can interpolate a little and get good values.

gerald strine wrote:I would not go with the brass inserts with a 175 grain head I use the slick tricks in 175 gr and they fly great with the aluminum inserts that is the whole idea of the heavy head you do not need brass inserts.
You will be giving up more speed than nessasary with no accuracy gain.

Still having issues....... :(

Im on Gold tips FOC Calculator playing around with different bolt combos and cannot get one to work for nothin'

I would like to use the Laser III or Laser IV Bolts and just cant find a combo...
I would like a final arrow weight of 470-485 Grain and I'm thinking of an FOC around 18% - 18.5% (again as much input as possible on the FOC subject and your arrow FOC's) any thoughts?

Also like a I previously mentiod, that 100 ft. lbs is my goal, but I want to stay above 300 fps because I'm gonna have the Twiglight DLX on my xbow and the minimum arrow speed for it is 300 fps. On the Excalibur Website a 502 Grain arrow with stock sting is going 303 fps so if I keep my arrow weight around the 470-485 I mentioned up top I will have an arrow speed between probably 307-309ish, meaing I reached the 100 ft. lbs. mark and maintained enough speed for the twighlight DLX to pick up the bows speed.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks for all the help guys!!!!

I can't say I totally agree with that article. The reason being is, what happens when the shot didn't happen the way you expected and you didn't get the most out of your bow/xbow and you hit the deer right smack dab in the middle of the shoulder? At that point the deer isnt hit with the most humane shot and if you have enough energy you can break through that shoulder blade and hit somthing to consider the shot deadly. I just prefer alot of energy so if I want to hunt deer, I can hunt deer and if I want to hunt cape buffalo I can hunt cape buffalo without changing my setup.

This is just mt opinion, sorry for the rant :D
Thanks for the article, I did enjoy looking at it!!!

I guess what I'm asking is, if someone will help me come up with the bolt I'm looking for.

Thanks
