String Removal

Post by Leaf »

This is my first year as a crossbow owner. I have a Vortex and am very satisfied. Just wondering if the more experienced crossbow owners remove the string for storage over the winter. Thanks

If you do remove the string don`t forget to remove the Dissipator pads first . Otherwise the soft rubber gets swished out . (that is the technical term ) :)

I do if I know I am not going to use it for a few months. I keep the twists in the string so all stays the same when it goes back on.

I take the string off for storing it for more than a few days in hot weather.

When the limbs are relaxed - unstrung.
There will be constant pressure applied to the pads.
Just the pads are removed not the whole DB Bar (pads only)

I would say if'en you don't shoot yer Bow every month then relax the limbs & remove diss pads if'en you have them. I shoot yr around even in the snow n cold. Plus i don't have diss pads nor want them. To each their own!

My Vortex is always strung.

I take the pads off and remove my string. I keep the string and pads in a zip lock tied to the trigger guard of my bow. That saves me a lot of searching for them later, because I can never remember the safe place I put stuff.

Leave the string on and shoot shoot shoot I shovel a path out to my target in the winter and fling a few bolts here and their on the weekends. Your bow will be fine with the string on all the time.
