Limb dampener UPDATE

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

If you had success in keeping a limb dampener on your
limb. Where would be the most effective place on the
limb would you apply the dampener? After watching this
video. http://youtu.be/5fv04d9nBl4
I'm thinking only an exorcism would work

Why do our Excals sound the way they do? Is it the abrupt
stop in the limbs? The string hitting a dampener? What make
them so special - noise?

Where on the limb would a dampener be most effective
same as a Vbow closest to the tip?
Thanks Hank for your input! Thanks!

Thats a good video showing the abuse the crossbow takes. Now I know my bolt retention clip is making noise, when you see it on the video just banging up & down.I was surprised to see the scope moving the way it did. The bow doesn't have the S5 on it I would like to see the same thing with the S5 attached,I'm sure it would be less violent. I would also be suspicious of the video as to who was actually behind the making of it,if it was a competitor they could have loosened bolts to make it look that way
Here's the compound

The Excalibur has longer limbs so theres gonna be more flex to them

here is a Vortex video slowed down by 4x.it doesn't look nearly as violent, which is why I'm suspicious of the other one being staged.
I dont see any movement in the scope

Imho, the best place for limb dampeners is still on the stores shelf. They won't really quieten a xbow, they fly off at inopportune times and cost a bunch of fps.

This is coming from a guy that's bolted a lot of junk on his xbows, lol.

But I've also removed most of the junk I bolted on.
Catwhiskers on the string is all I use now. (even took the DBs off)

Nothing on the bow yet, although just playing around with
the bow. I'm going to put some Sims Insulator Strips on the
limbs and see what happens? I used them on my stirrup with
good results.

Just trying to get an idea of where to place them? I'm thinking three
per limb which is about the same weight of one traditional looking
dampener. With 3.4" of adhesive and weighing only 0.14oz each.
Only with much more adhesive contact. I don't think the bow will
throw them. I'm going to put one about two inches from the tip of
the limb in the middle splitting the limb and the other two half way
back of the first (middle). One above and one below all three
touching one another.

Thanks for all the advice!

Off Topic here a little but, I put one of those Sims Insulator Strips on the arrow retainer of my bow and it works great eliminating the noise that comes from it when the bow is shot.

Just another Idea. Actually the picture of them reminded me lol.

The strips look like they should do well lots of surface glue and not protruding a lot to get wiggled off.

Let us know how they do

Dereck, corrected my previous post. They did not work!

Several months ago I called Danny Miller (US Excal Warranty) about the S-5's. He is not a fan of using any type of silencing system. According to Danny, anything that silences an Xbow is for the hunter, not for the animal. I'm not sure if you can get an Xbow as quiet as a Compound, IMHO.
