I entered in an annual open archery competition here recently. There were 4 different categories to score in if you want to be the overall winner. The Category I couldn't really enter to win before was the Clout. For those who aren't familiar, its shooting 180 meters (197 yards) at a 1"high foam target center with the scoring rings drawn around it on the ground. I saw that the compound bows which seemed the most accurate used adjustable mirrors to line the clout up, like a type of periscope.
With a couple of weeks to go before the comp, I knocked up a crude mirror from patio tubing that allowed me to keep the scope on the crossbow (I needed the scope left on for the other events). It worked way better that I thought it would, the accuracy shocked me. The equinox had way to flat a trajetory for the bolt to stab in the ground at all. It was 300 meters to walk and get that lot of bolts which all skidded off the target area

Anyway, I set the same mirror setup on the Ibex combined with 250 grain tips to try and get a flatter trajectory. Spot on

After the distance was adjusted nearly all the bolts hit either in the gold ring or in the clout. In the end I didn't come close to winning the clout, and had about 70% of my bolts skidding out of the center target area. But even so, I was very happy with the accuracy compared to the verticals. I'm hoping with some more fine tuning I'll get them to stay in the ground next year.
