munch mount problem
I installed a mucnh mount on my vortex and am experiencing a problem loading some arrows/bolts.
As those of you that have them know you have to load the arrows backwards through the mount from the front of the crossbow. However, the angle you can load the arrow is now limited by the height of the mount.
When trying to load goldtips through the mount the angle isn't enough to lift the arrow hold down spring without reaching up with a hand and physically assisting by lifting the spring a bit. To wit, the sharp edge of the nock pushes into the partially upturned end of the spring but not enough to lift the spring on it's own.
Who else has had this problem and what did you do to remedy it? I'm a bit reluctant to go bending the spring up but really like the concept of the munch mount and don't want to have to go back to the side mount.
Putting the shrink wrap on the spring only makes it worse BTW.
thanks for your help and ideas...BB

Re: munch mount problem
I load mine differently - I push the tip of arrow through the mount from the scope side of the mount, then lower the shaft of the bolt into the rail and slide it backward to seat against the string. Easy peasey.

Have you considered breaking the edge of those rear nocks with some fine sand paper? A sharp edge can eat servings too.

I took off retaining arm and bent up the round tab on the end of retaining arm. Then you don't need your hand to lift it. I also load arrows as Mrs. Vix said.

Re: munch mount problem
thanks for the replys. Loading the arrow from scope end or front still leaves the angle of contact with the spring the same so this did not help. Boo, chamfering the nock ends was the first thing I tried with no luck; perhaps a bit more would do it. I think bending the spring will be the only solution but man I am reluctant to mess with that any. I'm not sure if I want to bend the end up a bit or down a bit? BB

Re: munch mount problem
take it off the bow. it is tough metal and you only want to bend the end(round tip) up. Try to bend on bow the whole arm will bend
Re: munch mount problem
I bought a new vortex three weeks ago and put a Munch mount on the other day and have no problems loading the Firebolts at all. Sounds like your retention spring is not positioned correctly. Bend that sucker up a tad.

Re: munch mount problem
if i bend the tip up won't this increase the angle of contact and make it harder to bend up and the arrow to slip under???
Re: munch mount problem
How much clearance do you have between the spring and the barrel? You should have about 1/4" looking at mine. My arrows silde in with no pressure hardly at all.bellasboss wrote:if i bend the tip up won't this increase the angle of contact and make it harder to bend up and the arrow to slip under???

i have absolutely no clearance between the bottom of the spring and the barell. This is how it came.>>????????????????
Re: munch mount problem
That is what I thought. I just tried to measure mine. Just over an 1/8" of clearance. Grab it and pull it up a little.bellasboss wrote:i have absolutely no clearance between the bottom of the spring and the barell. This is how it came.>>????????????????

Re: munch mount problem
It come from not enough curl on the tip of the retainer. When cocking the bow if there isn't enough curl it's way too easy to pull the string over top of the retainer.bellasboss wrote:i have absolutely no clearance between the bottom of the spring and the barell. Re: munch mount problem
boo, do you have any clearance between your spring and the barell?
Re: munch mount problem
I've got a Groundpounder mount on my bow, but I still load it the same as VixChix does. Push the tip between the uprights, load the arrow on the rail, slightly lift the spring, and then slide back.
My spring used to be really pressing down hard onto the rail. I recently took the bow apart and cleaned everything and did some other stuff to the bow. While I had it apart, I bent the spring back up to where there's about 1/4" clearance between it and the rail. While I had the spring off, I put the end that attaches to the bow into a vice, with the edge right at where the bend started near where it attaches to the bow, and bent it back slightly. After I attached it back onto the bow and checked it, I had to tweek it a little more, but the majority was done.![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
