Dave :)
You could try a rubber or epoxy coating just on the outside of the stirrup.
Good idea I'll try it :) Thanks Ont_Excal

ok for clearence issue's what bout thin leather....i'm thinking of using 1/16" thick cowhide and after making a dry fit....wet it down and use a baseball stitch to attach it, when the leather dries it should tighten up a good bit........bob

Using the rope cocker one is only pulling 100 lbs for 12 inches or so depending on how one set up the rope. The tensile strength of a nylon web belt far exceeds that Herculean feat and rivals the stock stirrup itself. :)
True, a web belt has the strength.
I think the issue would be the point of attachment to the bow. I'd be worried about wear factor more than anything.
I wear soft rubber boots........would a belt be hard on my feet??
If it ever flipped up and into the path of the arrow, also not good.
It would have to be a stiff belt so it stayed open while placing boot into it.
With the metal stirrup I can stand the bow up on it and with the belt it would be on it's limbs.
I still like the metal stirrup better for the way I hunt but to each their own.

I wrap the whole thing but you may have to remove some in the center for broadhead clearance.
I forgot that I (for now ) will be using a mechanical broadhead, so there is plenty of clearance, plus once I get it wrapped I am going to wet it which slightly shrinks the paracord and effectively tightens the paracord to the stirrup.

Several layers of Allen's camo cloth tape does the trick for me. Works to silence the stirrup twang and if inadvertently hit stand railing getting on target.

I removed the strirrup and coated it entirely with performix plastic dip and it is holding up fine.

That's another good tip.
Liquid plastic would work as well as anything else.
I already have some for dipping tool and plier handles.

Well I miscalculated the length of paracord I needed, so I only got a partial covering, but I think it looks ok.

I did it myself, it's very easy and only took about 15 min. using 550 paracord. I think you are confusing the color design of the cord with with any talent I have LOL I took a pic of how I started it before wrapping so you can see how its done.
How much did you use and how much do you think you should have used?
After I was done I realized I should have measured it in case someone asks, but I think it was around 15 feet, so I am guessing that about another 8-10 ft. would have done all of the stirrup.
Sweet but when it gets wet and dirty it wont be to sweet
Getting wet will not be a problem since paracord is rot resistant, as for the dirt, well that going to happen for sure, but I bet with a tooth brush and some sort of cleaner you could clean it right up.

Image

So you start with a loop as seen in the pic, I use painters tape to hold it to the stirrup, make sure the short end of the cord is long enough for you to grab with your hand because you will be pulling really hard on it at the end of the wrapping.
So once you have your loop set up like in the pic, you start wrapping it, and keep each wrap tight against the previous one. When you get to the end your left with a little loop which you pass your cord through, and then go back to the short end and pull, which will draw in the little loop until it disappears.

Once your satisfied with your job cut the two ends of paracord, but do not cut it flush, leave a little bit sticking out, which you will then use a lighter or soldering gun to melt. I use a mini torch lighter which gives a good solid blue flame, and melt it until its really sticky, then I use the flat side of a knife to push the melted end into the wrap. When you squish it with the knife, the melted end mushrooms and hardens so it cannot be drawn inside the wrap. You could then soak the wrap with water, and as it dries it will shrink a bit a help tighten up the wrap.

Keep in mind that 550 paracord has 550lbs strength, so if ever you need rope while hunting, you could just cut or pick off the hardened mushroomed end of your wrap, and unravel it all and you would have over 15ft. of cord. You could hang your deer with it if need be.
