gun for backup

Ive seen on this site that some guys are bringing a gun for backup on there bear hunts what is your opinion on that im just wondering if its worth the bother : :? :?

My opinion on that is just like concealed carry.......

It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. :wink:

Been on the sharp end of a pissed off animal more times than I can count, hunting is good, keeping safe is better.

Not a bad idea to have a back up if the regulations allow for it. :)

Bow hunted bears for more than 13 years. only had a couple close encounters. I used to carry a shotgun, but any more i just keep a bottle of pepper spray in a holster on my hip. The gun i just too danged heavy to carry. Bill

You want to know what works really well, once the bear charges you simply turn the bow around and poke him one with the buttstock!!!

Check out T-Roy from Team Backwoods on this northern Alberta bear hunt...

He is put in the situation and does exactly that...probably should have been wearing depends!!

or you could do like the eskimoes do ..
a polar bear will sit at a hole in the ice waiting for a seal ..they just sneak up and kick him in the ice hole 8)

thanks for all your input boys :D :lol: :D might just bring my single shot 12 gauge with ssg for back up but this bears going down with the XCAL.... :D :D :D
