My first love will always be wood but the laminates react to a gentle slope cut versus a steep cut in such an amazing way. Itsa crazy ride for sure. You can make a great look on one side but the trick is to duplicate it on the other side. Now I am going to use a tru-oil or something similar that stays on the the surface because I need a sealer that also covers the glue joints. The sealer I used on Don's and Tara's stocks penetrated into the wood and left very little on he surface and I am worried about the glue getting exposed to moisture. Laminate would be my choice to have made.

Put a white spacer on the butt to dress it up a bit.

I really like the spacer mike. It transitions nicely to the ebony. I also really like the idea you have for the thumb hole. It's going to fit like a glove and looks sweet with the laminate!

Just to give you an update. I am done carving and am starting to sand her down. Starting with 80grit and boy now I have all those curves to go over. I found using a floor sanding sandpaper really works well because of its great backing. Really stands up much better.

Can't wait to see this one finished. Love the looks of the laminate and its colors! And your buttplate and grip plate give it a good contrast to stand out nice. Awesome!!!

Sanded her down with 80grit and got ALL the scuffs and sratches out. Man this thing has lines. Lines, lines,LINES! Going to 180grit and sand her down again and then its the finish. I'm about all sanded out.

OK, can not cheap on this. Sanded it down with 100grit. May do 150grit and then 180grit.
