I want to paint my Equinox's rail and riser black. Had the bow dipped recently and the job was botched up. Want to strip them down and paint both satin black. The stock and limbs are passable, will leave both as is.
Not sure of what paint to use that will stand up to the rubbing action of the string on the rail when the bow is shot. Should I use a spray can of enamel or lacquer paint? Don't have access to an air brush.
Your expertise would be greatly appreciated....
Cheers

Re: Paint for painting the rail and riser
I've done a few with flat black lacquer, but found out as long as everything is clean most spray paint will work, lacquer will eat up some materials so I would stay away from using it unless everything is striped, show us when done

Re: Paint for painting the rail and riser
Sounds like a perfect project. I just painted my Y25 limbs [ Sem #15013 Landau Black ] flat black with a flex coating in it. They turned so perfect that I may paint the mainframe and riser too.
You can find this paint at Canadian Tire or Automotive supply. $15
I know this paint will not stand up on the rail, so, I would tape it off.
My Vortex and Equinox are Backed on Black Teflon coated and do not show a mark on the deck after years of shooting.

Ellis,
There are top notch stores in Ottawa that can set up with some very user friendly products. Most of them can supply the paint in a spray can, you are going to want a Polyurethane based paint. It will stand up most small bumps pretty good, a epoxy coating would be best but Im not sure about a spray can based product. A nice paint to use (aircraft grade) is Imron by Dupont it will take a beating. I have used it on snowmobile suspension pieces with no issues. They have changed the regulations for paint in Canada in the last 12 months so some products are no longer available here, and some of what replaced them arent as good. If you wish feel free to send me a PM and I can give you some contacts.

I don't think the paint would hold up on the rail and I'd be worried about it transfering to the string and mucking it up too.
Love the black heart stopper bow. Very slick indeed.

Re: Paint for painting the rail and riser
I would pick up a duracoat finish kit in matte black. Its a very tough finish thats used to coat firearms. They have a new version with teflon added. Im guessing it would work great on a rail.
Re: Paint for painting the rail and riser
Thanks guys, thought this was going to be real easy... Lots to think about. Time to research the paint options...MORE!
Cheers,
Bill
