My First Bear
Well after years of my friend Ray asking me to go bear hunting I finally agreed with certain conditions. I would be in a treestand with someone that was armed with a firearm.
I got the call last week saying my treestand could not be modified in time. However, my turkey hunting buddy Scotty agreed to sit with me in a ground blind. I was also told to expect smaller bears which made me less nervous about being in a ground blind.
Well the first night it rained off and on. We didn't see a thing and the other guys didn't see much as well. I guess I caught the bug and agreed to go on one more sit with Brian who has some guiding experience with American Hunters. But this time I wouldn't have any backup. Brian said he was confident with my shot and we shouldn't have any problems.
We went out a little later than the first day. We started getting text messages early in the night from the other guys telling us they were seeing bears. We felt like it was going to be a big let down of a night. Then just before 8:00 we see a bear in the woods in front of the ground blind.
As it came into the clearing. Brian and myself realized it was a BIG BEAR!
At first it was behind the bait barrel and didn't give me a good shot until that moment I realized it was going to be leaving soon. I had to make sure I had a good shot but timing was of the essence.
At one point the bear was looking straight at us and I remember thinking we are screwed if something goes wrong. Before the bear made the motion to leave it was putting its head up smelling the air.
I made a 18 yard heart shot but because of the black cross hairs and the black bear I was unsure of the shot. Until Brian said that is a dead bear. Then we heard it loud and clear. The Death Moans!! Then I realized I got my first bear.
The bear only went about 20 yards.

Nice job Congrats on the New Rug, but are you sure she isn't your buddy! Some of those shots look like the both of you are having a good time hangin' out and the last one all tired and cozy curled in the back
