Put on my new S5's tonight (Vortex) and I'm concerned about string clearance. The installation instructions says that the string should just barely clear them and my string is just touching. However, it looks like if I add a twist to the string then the string will be at the end brace height marking.
Thoughts?
S5 string clearance?
Re: S5 string clearance?
I twist the string till it clears the bumpers of the S5 by an 1/8".BillK wrote:Put on my new S5's tonight (Vortex) and I'm concerned about string clearance. A higher brace height will not hurt the bow or performance.

Re: S5 string clearance?
Thanks. Should I twist each side equally or is one twist on one side ok (if that solves the clearance issue)?

Re: S5 string clearance?
I keep mine about a string width away from the stoppers. This still keeps me well below the upper brace height. I have seen some folks keep the string just touching the stoppers but they seem to go through stopper much faster that I do.
I have also noticed that if the string is kept that close and it stretches (which they all seem to do to some extent) then it is in constant contact with the string stopper and will split them quickly if not adjusted prior to shooting.

Re: S5 string clearance?
You should only need to twist one side of the string and it will even itself out as you shoot.

Twisting on any end twists the whole string.BillK wrote:Thanks. Should I twist each side equally or is one twist on one side ok (if that solves the clearance issue)?
There are no hard and fast rules on S5 spacing. The closer the string is to the bumpers the more effective the S5 is but longevity is less with less clearance.

Re: S5 string clearance?
Twist only one end BUT make sure the direction in which the string is twisted is the same as that in which the serving was applied. Twisting the string opposite to direction of the serving loosen the serving.

Re: S5 string clearance?
Crap! So I need to verify the direction the serving is wound and be sure to twist the string tighter from 1 specific side?
I already did it (tightened the left side about 10 turns to get it to clear the S5's) but hadn't seen this post until then. Will my serving unravel if I did it from the wrong side with the bow just sitting - or only when shooting it?

Re: S5 string clearance?
There is no no WRONG side. You can twist your string up from either side. Only on compound bows do you have to twist evenly from both ends. If your string was built correctly you will be twisting it counter clock wise no matter which end you are twisting from.BillK wrote:Crap!
