HHA Optic

Post by Buckwacker »

Hi Gang,
I missed two deer over the weekend :( and I am considering the HHA thing a ma jig.
Has anyone tried one and does it compensate for shooting from a tree? Please help.

Do you mean the Optimizer? I don't think there is any great advantage to having it for hunting. Great for 3D target shooting tho!

To much adjusting per yardage, get a scope with the increment's your looking for and leave the adjusting behind.

Yup - that's it. If you know the yardage and can reach up and make the adjustment on the dial for the exact distance as the deer is coming in - great. But what are the chances?

I have one on my bow - this weekend I was mentoring a ladies deer hunt. I'd set the distance to 25 figuring it the best bet for a 1st time deer hunter, and for any deer that might come by. Turns out that the shot presented itself at 25 exactly - but that was a nice coincidence.

I'm going to buy an optimizer for my xbow after Christmas I like adjusting to the exact yard. I've been using one on my vertical bow for over 10 years hunting and 3D. The majority of my friends use them hunting as well on their vbows. They set theirs around 25 yards in the woods.

I killed a deer last year at 62 yards with my vertical bow and my HHA I ranged the deer in my food plot and double lunged it. Please take in consideration that is a long shot but I practice shooting at those distances all spring and summer long in our 3 D circuit.

It is personal preference what people want and use I just like dialing in and aiming dead on instead of aiming high or low.

The cheapest one I've found on line is at www.eders.com for $137.00. Good luck with your decision I know what mine will be.

I would look at why you're missing the deer. If the issue is judging distance then the Opitimizer isn't going to help you at all. The Optimizer is a great thing for shooting precisely at known yardages but there is no reason anyone can't shoot accurately out to 30+ yards with a regular crossbow scope. A range finder and practice at different yardages may be a better way to go.

No you don't have to compensate out of a tree for the optimizer. I always aim at the lower 1/3 of the deer while shooting a bow and xbow this seems to help with getting both lungs. Range finders are priceless when shooting archery equipment.
