That should come to an end real soon. I saw one still nursing last month but none this month so far. The rut just kicked off here a few days ago in MD so I don't really expect to see any fawns trying to nurse, unless they are asking for a kick from mama.

The doe should be dryed up by now and the fawns are acting on instinct but you never know. I have two cats born the same time and one is nursing the other (no milk) but still trying

Still beats the two female fawns I saw trying to mount each other last week... It's no wonder we have a dwindling deer population in this area.

Fawns CAN nurse up to 6 months. Depends on the doe. If she allows it, she keeps producing. I took a late-season doe one year that was full of milk at the end of November.

Almost every doe I shoot in November is still milking. I try to target dry does but the deer population is growing in my area so there are very few dry does. By late December I target the yearlings because it's likely easier on the population and the yearlings have grown significantly.
