First Morning Sit Nov 3 photo added

Post by eddy22 »

Well after seeing all the trail cam pics of bucks moving I finally had the chance to get out for a morning sit. I was sitting in my stand by 715 and hunt was over by 745. I could hear this buck walking behind me so I got my crossbow ready for him to pop out over my left should. I am waiting and don't see him come but can still hear him walking. I look down to my right and he is right there walking along the creek. At first I didn't know if I was going to shoot as I finally got drawn for the shotgun hunt that starts on Monday. I was hesitating untill he turned his head sideways and I saw the length of his tines. I decided to take the shot, had him all lined up, grunted to stop him, he stops looks up at me I pull the trigger and the safety is still on, crap! HE takes five quick steps, I grunt and he stops again. Pull the trigger and watch the lumenok hit its mark. OF course he runs down in the creek bottom into the thickest stuff. I gave him an hour, called some buddies and started tracking. My buddy brought out his 6 mth old springer for her first outing in the bush. He has been working on her with rabbit scent and duck scent at home. I let her smell the arrow and the first pools of blood and she was on the track really quick, very neat to watch a pup do that. He ran about 80 yards where he expired, double lung and broad head is still lodged in his opposite shoulder. Buck ended up having long tines and great mass, I thought he was an 8-10 pt but turns out he was a 6pt, but a nice mature deer anyways. The drag was brutal, always nice to have good buddies. Good luck!
Here is the video as well: didn't turn out as well as i Hoped really dark on film. If look close you can see him walking on the right.

Way to go. Good to have a tracking pup and friends willing to help with the drag out too. :)

Congratulations :D Now the shot with the safety on is something I would do. I have sat twice now with my lens caps on for the first 15 min
