Wet bow no good?

Post by Woodspike »

I'm sitting here getting ready for an early hunt, and it is raining dogs and beavers.
Any issues with water during the hunt? Or tips for drying and cleaning the bow afterwords?

Thanks.

i think youll be fine in the event of a shot..so be confident..
when you get home dry it off with a towel and place it on a heater vent to dry it out more ( turn it upside down with the air going into the trigger unit) ...someone said if its real cold let it warm up slowly in the case first ..i use compressed air to dry mine out ..if you have that then your good too..
the sooner you get all that done the less rust youll see on your screws ..

No real problems using a wet bow, BUT, if the water in your bow freezes, it's not good.

The safety and trigger can freeze solid just like they were glued.

As said, dry it out. Fortunately, if it's that cold, it's going to snow, not rain.

Rain, sleet or snow.. None of it matters, Your bow will deliver like a mail man!
Ok, bad comparison, the mail sucks, but you get the idea.

I use a bicycle chain lube called 'Tri-Flow', comes in a big ol can w/ red pipette.

I'm not a fan of WD-40 for lubing things........it gets rid of water great though..........

I use a lite layer of WD-40 on the Ibex when hunting rain.
I would like to try some other products.
Maybe we may have a scentless spray in the near future.
May my aim be true and my arrow fly straight

WD-40 is the trademark name of a penetrating oil and water-displacing spray. It was developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, in San Diego, California. WD-40, abbreviated from the phrase "Water Displacement, 40th formula,"[1] was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion,[2] and later was found to have numerous household uses.

Larsen was attempting to create a formula to prevent corrosion in nuclear missiles, by displacing the standing water that causes it. He claims he arrived at a successful formula on his 40th attempt.[2] WD-40 is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons.

What ever you do don't dry your Excalibur close to a wood stove. The heat can kill the limbs if too close or too hot. A member from here from Quebec did that on a moose hunt and had a limb break in half the next day while cocked. Imagine his surprise and shock and imagine the potential injuries that could result. Lucky no one was hurt.

There is no substitution for experience.
Next time it is raining, or snowing, take your bow out and take a couple shots.
I got so carried away when I first got mine I would do some crazy stuff to it, just to see if I could alter the path of the arrow, or the functionality of the bow, with no luck.
When that hurricane reared it's ugly head and everyone was boarding up the windows, I put on my boots and went out testing arrows..
I have not found a single situation that would change my POI enough that I wouldn't hunt with the bow, and I am very anal about accuracy.

Very good info...raining here now and snowed twice.... with deer in the bait wondered if snow over the arrow would cause impact change....
