Ibex SMF here soon, excited

Post by ShaneInMN »

Hello all - I am tired of dealing with crossbows out of commission for problems related to cams and cables and decided on the Ibex SMF. When I want to shoot, I will be darned that I wont.

I'm not strong enough with my left arm to cock back the heavier bows due to medical condition. I had my hopes set on an Equinox, thought about a Vortex, but truely didn't want to dump a ton of cash on another crossbow.

The Ibex seems to be the baby brother and that's just fine with me. I know this bow will kill hogs and bears, I'm not worried a bit about the velocity!

Would like any helpful tips regarding maintenance with this bow. I have some Tex-Tite string wax, scorpion venom rail lube, tenpoint rail and trigger lube and some scorpion cam and serving lube.

It sounds as if I'll need a stringer device to do maintenance on the string after it breaks in. I don't think the SMF kit comes with that.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating, be safe out there and enjoy it!

Welcome to the forum!! :D :D
The stringing aid is a must. As for maintenance...ain't a lot of it. I use Dalton's string wax on my string, very little on the serving & nada on the rail.
Just shoot & repeat...these things are practically indestructible!!
Just keep your digit's below the rail!!

I have a ibex smf and love it. It is a tough bow. You will need a stringer aid or make one thats what I did. I have about 75 shots threw my bow and I just wax the string every 20-25 shots. I did add the d-bars and s5 to mine just in case of dry fire. I did dry fire it when sighting the scope. I was mad at my self. But after checking out the bow it was still perfect shape. I made it a habit to set the safety before I remove the cocking aid. With the ibex stock I notice when I pick my bow up to load a arrow/bolt I want to grab it in the firing position trying to break that habit. Im sure you will love your new bow.

What sort of life should I get out of the serving? I don't have the tools to reserve the string, but I think I'm going to end up getting some, as well as a bow press (yes, for my compound LOL). I need to be able to do all this stuff on my own. I'm out in the sticks! Shops aren't very close and gas is expensive. Besides, I need another trade.

Thanks GA, I wish I had the bow right now, I'd drive my jeep out in the pasture and crank up the high beams so I could do some night shootin'

I was thinking about getting the S5 as well Nova, haven't looked into the d-bars yet.

Thats plenty for me. Guess in a month or two when I go through 300 shots I'll have to learn how to reserve the string.

Do not use the rail lube it is not needed and makes your serving seperate extremely fast
