Hunt 2012, from the vidio of my mind.

Post by Cossack »

Dawn is breaking, the woods noises are just starting. The first glow of sun starting to light the swamp just east of my ladder stand. The Vortex is loaded in eager anticipation, resting on the stand rail, the Spitfire poised to do its job. A chickadee lands on the twig wondering about the still intrusion into it's domain. The woods smell of fall, a mixture of smells that can't be duplicated by man. Not a breath of wind to distract my reverie. A single twig snaps on the hillside behind the swamp, slowly the unmistakable noise of deer cautiously making their way toward the pinch point my stand occupies grows..... and stops. I scan the edge with my binoculars. There are two of them :The Brothers. I know them well. Their racks catch the morning sun as they test the wind and search for un-woods noises. My heart has been there many times before but cannot contain it's excitement. Again. Realizing I had stopped breathing, I force myself to take in air so quietly. Satisfied that all is well they proceed in my direction. Fred, the one with the crabclaw on his left antler, suddenly turn east and into the swamp to lay down. His brother heads toward my direction, the though of salt likely on his mind. He walks so cautiously, it seemingly takes forever. The weight of the Vortex grows, each aged muscle reluctantly doing it's work. And now he's just 18 yards away, looking past me at some unseen curiosity in the woods beyond. The top of the crosshair settles on the brown depression behind his shoulder, my finger reacts, and my heart beats it's happy song to a hunt well executed. The half hour passes at a snails pace, my senses no longer woods-ready and thoughts have turned to where he will lie. The hunt is over, long live the hunt

Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.
Incurable tinkerer.
Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!
