Phoenix speed question
I plan getting some GoldTip Lasers and then go get chronoed. Does someone have a simple speed calculator or just tell me about what speed I should get with 375 to 390 grain from my Phoenix ?
Would 290 fps be a good guess ?

With Firebolts and 150 grain field points and a Flemish string my Phoenix is now shooting over 300 fps.

Re: Phoenix speed question
Here's the figures: 8-12 fps for diff in strings and 1 fps for every 5 gr above 350 gr. Not perfect, but dang close.......

I have an Ibex. With 436 gr arrows I get 290 fps. You should get 300 fps.
Ibex, 3X-32 Vortex crossbow scope, GT Laser II, 125 gr. Marden Mini Mag Steel broadheads, 4 deer so far
Re: Phoenix speed question
Thanks Ibex sounds like you might be shooting a fast flight ????

Yes, I am using a fast flight string.

Re: Phoenix speed question
I would guess you're shooting fast enough
Re: Phoenix speed question
Well finally had a chance to take the Phoenix to town and get chronoed. It has an old worn out Dacron string on it and with bolts weighing in at 501 grains it shot average 269 fps. With 452 grain it shot average 280 fps.
So with all the info that you all gave me earlier it looks like its shooting right on the money.
I bought this used Phoenix from craigslist at a real sweet price but the string was left in place almost all the way stretched out and smashed the dissapator pads which I completely removed but it has turned out to be a good one. The trigger is like none that I remember because there is absolutely NO trigger creep and its set light and crisp. I will stop bragging now.
Thanks again for all the help and I love owning another Excalibur crossbow again. Man its been awhile.
