Which type of broadhead is best for the crossbow?

I am now trying to find out the best option for the 150 grain broadhead .
Should one go with a single blade , 3 blade or 4 blade option , vented or non-vented ? I know that trying different ones would be the way to go , but I do not want to spend a fortune and have many blades I can not use.
As I have stated before I will be going with the Phoenix , that shoots in the 300 + FPS catagory.
I know that asking this question, that there will be varied opinions and all are welcome , therefore I will be able to make an informed choice of just a few types and go from there.

I have good results with 100g Spitfire 3 blade mechanical, using GT laser II arrows with 110g brass inserts. Took two doe and a turkey last year with this set up on my Vortex.

The reason that I chose 150 grain broadhead is my mind set. When I use to hunt with firearms I had my own standard as far as what caliber I was shooting and what the weight and speed of that bullet should be.
I rarely differed from my mind set unless I could not safely achieve the speed , that I deemed correct for me. I would then get as close to the speed. If it didn`t like the results , I would trade it off and get a new caliber that would meet my concerns.
The 100 grain seemed to work well for you , though I have heard of failures with mechanical broadheads , not opening properly ( failure is something I do not tolerate well when using any tool --- if it is my fault then I can blame myself--which I have done on more that on occassion , then practiced more to over come the failure on my part. If they have improved, then I would be open to the idea of using a mechanical broadhead .

I can't recall but about 3 makers of fixed blade 150 grs. Excals Boltcutter Slicktrick & Magnus has couple. They're all good

The Phoenix is a great xbow, got one, but it's not a powerhouse. I use 400 gr Gt's in mine w/ 100 gr Slicks, fly like darts.......

My favorite is the 100 gr. Muzzy, shoots very much like a field point, have killed several deer with it. Use a 175 lb Excalibur modified Vixen.

I appreciate you all for some info. There are so many things to look into. I`ll take all the input and start doing research on all the broadheads that have been mentioned.

I am firmly in the fixed blade - moderately heavy arrow camp. I shot a bison with a 525gr arrow and a 100gr Montec CS this year. Actually shot him 3 times, 1 time through a rib (which is about 2: wide and 1/2" thick) with no visible damage to the head at all.

I then put 150gr Magnus Stinger 2 blade heads on those arrows and shot a hog. Absolutely no arrow/BH damage, complete pass through. That arrow weighed 575gr.

For deer sized game, I think an arrow weighing 450 to 500gr total weight, with 20% to 25% FOC will work great. Rather than focusing on just BH weight, think about the combo of BH and insert weight that gives you a high FOC. That will increase penetration. Using a heavy insert may allow you to go with a 100 gr head - and there are LOTS of those to choose from. As Vixenmaster pointed out, at 150 gr your choices become limited.

For me, my BH choices are:
Magnus Stinger - 2 blade
Montec CS - 3 blade
Slick Trick - 4 blade.

Seems to me that it is also sometwhat easier to get 4 blades to fly vs 3 blades, but if the arrow is true, and the fletching is adequate for the BH, then any of those 3 fly great for me

Did that with a Rage 2-blade a few years ago and got about 4" penetration. Shot distance was less than 10 yds. Deer went 10 yds, turned around looking for the noise and stood there bleeding for 15 minutes then ran off never to be found. That's what changed my mind....and alot of research and study on arrow physics.

I don't think you can reach 300 + FPS with your Excaliber Phoenix using a 150 grain broadhead. In order to get 300+ FPS out of your Phoenix, look at changing to the Flemish type string if not done already and 100 grain broadheads.

I only use fixed bladed broadheads myself, since I cannot get my head around the mechanical type. I shoot the Excalibur Equinox and I feel I achieve approx 330 FPS with Firebolts and 150 grain broadheads. I like the heavier broadhead which carry extra foot lbs of energy while sacrificing some FPS.

I tried the Excaliber Boltcutter 150 grain 3 blade broadhead this past 2012 Michigan's early archery deer season. I shot a large white-tailed doe at 25 yards broadside double lung pass through and she only traveled approx 40 yards with a good bloodtrail.

I am switching to Slick Trick 150 grain Xbow Magnum 4 blade broadhead, since I heard they fly truer than the Excaliber Boltcutter, have one extra blade and has a 1 1/8" cutting length vs Excaliber Boltcutter's 1 1/16" cutting length. Plus they are cheaper in price.
