Post by Mo wannabe »

These are supost to be the cats meow for drawing deer to your area. Any of you folks had any dealings with them or got any input. Thanks. And all y'all going to Boo fiest drive careful. !

Ladino clover is the way to go for us, it's tuff stuff against the weather, low up keep other than cutting it, deer will travel to get to it.

Its funny, I keep hearing how soy bean draws in the deer, but two years ago the guy leasing my buddies field planted it for feed for his farm and there was not much deer tracks in that field, but last year he planted corn and it was a deer magnet.

I find the deer use the corn more for cover. soybeans offer none. not that they dont enjoy eating the corn because the knocked down over an acre of it. they would bed down in the corn during the day.

way down here....we do both of them in the off season. we have to use native foliage during season. our co-op has deer-mix that's always been good. itsa mix of wheat, rye & oats. yall prolly got tha same stuff

I may have to plant me a little next year and see how it works. I have large farms on two sides so I have to see what they plant in them . Thanks for the ideas !

I've taken shortcuts through the corn early in the morning and have come head to head with deer  gets your adrenaline goin, and the sound of the combine harvesting the corn draws the deer in like crazy.

i have tried rr beans and the deer hammered them... unfortunatly my plot was too small and very little pod production, i then moved to clover....it seems to take the grazing better and dirt cheap, lasts longer in the cold season and no need to replant every year.... i redoo 1/3 every year to help compete with weed as i cant use any herbicides ..i have no agriculture around me so this also helps ... i since have tripple the size of my plots but havent been out to see them this year...

Round up ready just like corn. It is a gynetically modified plant/seed that resists damage from Round Up or Glyphosate.
You can't buy it from a supply store unless you are licenced.

I have very good luck with "wintergreens" and "tall tine tubers"(turnips) both from the whitetail institute. their seed is expensive but for the small plots that i do the expense is not an issue. but fertilizer is out of this world on the cost  this year im just planting sunflowers with a little corn mixed in. for some reason unknown to me they say not to grow turnips more then 2 years in a row in the same plot and its rotating year. might try the turnips in a new plot at the other end of my 80 acres. another nice thing about the turnips is they get planted in mid july instead of spring. I always have to much to do in the spring as it is
