New Stringer Design

I just bought a stringer for my Matrix. I had the old design in my hands when the salesman said that I might want the new design since I had the Matrix. It is wider, thinner and with aluminum cut outs on the sides. Anyone know why the change? It looks like the holes that the limbs go into are the same.
