Thermacell

Post by Dayelight »

Hey All,

I just bought a thermacell mosquito repellent contraption off Amazon along with a couple refills, a carrying pouch, and some butane cartridges. I'm getting prepped for early archery which starts here next month. I'm breaking out the Permethrin to soak my clothes and gear in as well. Last year I was so bit up and covered in ticks I didn't even want to hunt anymore during early season. Seriously, a few of the times I came back in early because I had welts on my neck from having so many bites. I even bought a mosquito head net and layered up my clothes to try to prevent them from biting.
Anyone have any success stories with the thermacell repellent?
I did a search on the forum but mostly got results on the thermacell foot warmer.

Thanks

I have been using them for a few years now. They work great as long as they are close to you. Once you are about 5 feet away look out. You will get a bug or two every now and then, but they do work.

I do not use one but my brother and nephew will not go into the early season woods without one. They swear by them.
I use a headnet and a tad of Bens 100 deet and they pretty much leave me alone.
I do spray all my clothes with Permethrin.

If it windy not so good.
Otherwise the most valuable piece of hunting and fishing piece of equipment I own.
You can not appreciate it' s effectivness until you visit some of the regions of Ontario and Quebec where the blackflies and skeeters will drive you insane they are so thick beyond ones imagination.

You need to remember it takes about a 5 minutes heat up before the repellant kicks in. Also there is scent to it so it may draw attention to it's use. Which I would prefer over being eaten to death.
I also carry two units at all times just incase the one I am using fails.
But also note I it is so effective that it may also be adopt by the family for every day use. So do not assume it is in your hunt pack before you head out as I once did.

You will like the Thermacell ....it works ..and check out thermascent ...plus if you don't want to buy the whole outfit just buy the refills with the platform and put it on your thermacell along with the scent of your choice.

some products will keep mosquitoes from biting you,but a Thermacell will keep them from buzzing in your face so you can set still & hunt!

As said they work well, if there is some wind set it up wind from you. Where my buddy hunts spring bear the outfitters tell everyone not to come without one.

As a bonus, If you remove the pad and stick it inside your hunting jacket it gives off enough heat to help warm you up.

Thanks for all the replies.
I had noticed they had unscented pads that you could clip to the front of the thing on their website. Doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I think it might be better than buying one of those scent heaters just because it kills two birds with one stone.
Anyone have any experience with it repelling ticks? I'm not asking for a miracle product here I'm just curious what it's capable of.

I had no idea something like this existed. Do you have the 3D one? How hot is it?

I saw those too, you put your favorite attractant on it and your off to the races. Anyone ever try this ?????
