String Stopper Problem on an Equinox

Post by racking up points »

My dad bought an Equinox about 5y ago, before they were equipped with string stoppers. He decided to retrofit his with the Excalibur brand and installed them himself this week. I took one look at them and noticed something was off. i took out the measuring tape and the gap on the right side I'd about 1/8" but the gap on the left stopper is almost double that. It gives the illusion that the limbs or the riser are bent or off kilter, but measuring from the string to the end of the rail shows that is not the case.

So I brought it to the dealer who sold him the bow, (but who no longer sells Excalibur), and he says that it could be a flaw in how the riser was drilled and tapped for the string stopper. But he offered no suggestions or recourse.

I have not noticed any erratic arrow flight and the stoppers have quieted the bow down a bit. I am worried that strings/servings will wear more. I also think that the string impacting the stoppers at even slightly different times might cause more vibration and wear on the bow over the long haul.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there any real problem with this setup? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

My friend's was off a little also, reason unknown. If it is the S5's that your dad put on? In my friend's case we/he built up the inside of the S5 bumper with paper to even out the flaw in the distance between string and bumper. No problems worked well!

Did you measure the stops? my set on my vortex were not of equal length. it shouldnt be an issue if its shooting good still.

I too think the issue could be with the stoppers . . .make the stoppers fit your string.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Thanks to the help of some knowlegable excal gurus, problem solved! The s5's were not the prob. Tiller was off a good degree and the great folks in CS are taking care of me. Swapped limbs left for right and the tiller variance migrated to the other side of the rail, indicating faulty limbs. New ones are on the way.
