My New Matrix 380 or 320?

Post by Hester0305 »

Well I bought a new Matrix 380 Blackout several months back and decided to have some changes done to it sooooo I sent the trigger to BOO for a trigger job and sent the rail to Danny Miller to be cut down 2 more inches because I didn't like the extra weight of the limbs like I thought I would. My goal was to have a Super Vixen with a thumbhole stock.

I received the trigger several weeks ago from BOO and received the rail back today from Danny, the New Matrix is put together and man it sure is sweet. It cocks just about like my wifes Vixen II and the trigger breaks clean and crisp just about like my rifle trigger. The only thing I need to do now is sight it in and do some arrow and broadhead testing. I am also going to chrono the Matrix tomorrow afternoon if the rain holds off. I want to personally thank these 2 people for helping me get the Matrix that I wanted. Vixenmaster thank you also for making me another string for the Matrix I have a lot of shooting to do to finalize my setup and get my strings broke in.

Deer season is around the corner and Hopefully I can't put one of the 3 shooters down opening week.

Sounds pretty awesome. That's probably the way to get it done. Get everything you will ever need in one light bada** package.

Congratulations on finally having your rig the way you want it. That 2 inches shorter Matrix must balance real nice. Look forward to hearing how your speed tests go.

All the best.

I have been shooting a friends 355 thats been cut down to the same length as yours. Sweet bow for sure. I agree its very easy to cock and a pleasure to shoot. Through the chrony with stock string she shoots 321.7fps with a 356grn arra, 316fps/380grn, 306.7/405grn, and 299.5/430grn. with Dons string and my 380 grn hunting arra she was shooting a constant 309.1 fps.
Next will be broadheads through it but i dont suspect it will shoot them any different then my 355. This will be the my next bow it is truely a joy to shoot for extended sessions.

Well I did some testing this afternoon I was getting 307 fps with a 371 gr. 20 in. arrow and a BOO string and 288 fps with a 20 in. 436 gr. Black Eagle arrow. The new Matrix was stacking both arrows from 20-50 yards thats as far as I shot today because then I switched to some broadhead testing. I shot my QAD Exodus broadheads and they were about 2 inches low at 40 with my field points and the Slick Tricks were about the same. I made a speed dial adjustment on the tactzone and it was on the money with the broadheads . I'm still thinking about killing my first deer with the QAD's and see how they compare to my trusty Slick Tricks.

I did notice a difference in the noise it was a lot quieter than it was before. One of my friends has an Equinox and he said he needed to quit shooting it because he would talk himself in buying one because it is so balanced and compact. The BOO trigger is awesome if I had to guess somewhere in the 2 1/2 to 3 lb range with no creep or trigger travel. I have a Leupold 2-7x33 shotgun scope that I may try on it also but I'm liking the tactzone so far.

There is something about these small compact crossbows that can be very addicting to shoot, It is so easy to cock now compared to the way it was before, I can shoot all I want now without getting worn out after about a dozen shots or so. I'm looking forward to making putting a deer in the dirt very soon.

Vixenmaster, you know I'm been wanting a thumbhole Vixen I think my Matrix is my Super Vixen.

Pin, you would love this compact crossbow and sure tactzone is working just fine for now.
