0.001" or 0.003"

Post by Drew »

So I'm curious, is it really worth the extra $$ for the super straight 0.001" tolerance shafts? I know it will affect accuracy to some extent but are we talking inches at 20yds here or 1/4" at 50yds? Obviously over the longer the distances the more everything contributes to accuracy. I'm just wondering to what magnitude the benefit the 0.001" tolerance shaft has over the 0.003" shaft?

I read way more than I post. I'm new to this and believe researching new stuff like this is half the fun! Incredible knowledge base on this forum and I appreciate the input!

The only time you may see a difference is in long range shooting between .001 & .003.

in my opinion for hunting purposes at reasonable ranges .002 does nothing but give you a lighter wallet

I,ve tested the black eagles with the spine marked for the cock fletch from Don an could not see any difference out to 80yds. in the .001 or.003 with fieldpoints an broadheads.

now you opened up a mess lol..
lets say one arrow was .003 out opposite of the spine and anther was .003 out with the spine ...now you have .006 difference. or im thinking wrong.
I would love to here from some arrow makers on this one.

If you built arrows identical meaning fletching, nocks, etc. except weight and the difference between 0.001to 0.003 from 350grs to 500grs the only thing that would change is POI,the heavier they get the more it will change as in drop.

If I remember correctly seem like you have to get above .005 to make a difference and the true is 99% of the people are not a good enough shot to tell the difference.
Now when I say .005 that means the shaft will have a total of .010 that is the way most companies rate there arrows.

I couldn't remember any numbers but this is about what easton and gateway told me a long while back.

I always use .001 tolerance shafts not only are they tighter on runout tolerance but many brands also are within 1/2 grain in shaft weight. Most follks won't notice a big difference at hunting distances but at longer ranges I'm absolutely convinced better tolerance shafts equal better accuracy.

For 1/2 dozen shafts there is $5 difference in price between .001 & .003.
I figure If I can afford $1200 for a crossbow and good scope paying $5 more for .001 shafts isn't going to break me.

I sure would like to see some test of some shooting of the black eagles in .001 vs .003 out to 80yds. an see how they compare for accuracy . I guess i just don,t shoot good enough to see any difference . :D :D :D

Don't worry Frank, doubt you could anyway! Have people shooting mine out to 80 regularly with both. They are to close to call! Myself, cant tell the difference. Sixty yds., exactly same in my opinion. :)
Save your money and get the .003's. You can't go wrong.

Big John

But. who know's, maybe at 100 yds. you could see a difference, but you couldn't tell anyway. To many things to play with the arrow out that far.

Confidence is a powerful thing. But I have to agree on the 0.003" arras.
