Beware of the guy/gal with one gun

Post by Shotnbeer »

This is just a "what do you think" U need more than one club to play a round of golf. What about hunting.
I love my Excalibur Vortex and the guys and gals on this forum have helped me fine tune mine to where I couldn't be happier. I agree that more is sometimes better, but if you are doing the job with what you have is it necessary to step up? Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to move up. Any thoughts?

I don't think your bow is going to become obsolete. I don't see the animals you are hunting growing to some unfathomable size in the near future. If anything they would get smaller due to a loss in their habitat.
Its want not need. Your bow will get the job done for the rest of its life.
I don't ever plan on upgrading my Axiom unless I would be trading it. It does what it needs to do and I don't "need" anything else.
If you love bows and want to get another one because that's what you like then that is your choice. I can't justify the purchase of a 1,000$ bow that does the same thing as my Axiom...very simple.

The ExoMax I bought in 2006 is just as fast today as it was when I bought it. More speed would just add to the distance the arrow travels after the pass through. I've already recovered an arrow 75 yards beyond a pass through on one occasion. Sometimes too much is just enough.

Its a want thing! You don't really need it! :( I am jus like y'all i want a Matrix 355 & i really don't care about the 380 fer the price. I can honestly get 334 fps out of my E'cet 200, but it has a harsh recoil. So i shoot 400gr arrows at 319 fps cause it feels much better durin the shot. Y'all progress & i regress, i jus put together Booger carved tip limbs on him wid his Booger string. He may get get 290 fps wid a 356 gr arrow i have. Bet a dollar to a dime he will kill these walkin Tick Toters Dead!

I've only ever owned one crossbow and that's my Phoenix. I've had it since 2006 I have no plan or desire to replace it. I know every nuance about that bow and shooting it has become almost instinctive. To me that's very important.
I think though if I ever did get a second bow it would be a Vixen II.

Dang.
I am impressed guys that some of you actually understand the I want it to I need it thing.
Most think I want it, do not really need it but will order it today anyway. The wife and kids can eat oatmeal a few more weeks.

I really want a new Matrix.
But my Vortex still shoots good and kills well.
Might order one anyway. They can always eat oatmeal...

When Excalibur came out with the Matrix series, they didn't hit a "home-run", but rather a marketing "grand-slam". Their slogan; "The Matrix changes everything", rings true. The reason it does is because it's a major evolution, just like the Exo-series was from the Wolverine. However, the introduction of the Exo-series was not only a major evolution, but also a major improvement over the Wolverine.

The question is: Does the same hold true for the Matrix over its Exo-series predecessors?"

I personally do not think so. No doubt, the Matrix's smaller compact size, the perception that its increased speed and KE will make it a more effective crossbow is the reason it is so desirable. However, in reality, it isn't any more accurate, and I doubt it will harvest any more animals, or win any more 3D shoots.

What it will do, is give its owners a sense of pride in thinking that they own the latest and greatest Excalibur to date. In my mind, that alone can be cause to justify purchasing a Matrix.

Not doubt, if I didn't own a crossbow, and was buying new, given the choice, I'd choose a Matrix over an Exo-series model. However, if in the same boat, and also considering a "used" one; I wouldn't hesitate a "New York minute" to buy a used Exo-series model over a new Matrix.

Personally, owning three "Exo" Excaliburs, which have and continue to serve me so well, I can not foresee "dumping" anyone of them, even if I do fall into temptation and acquire a Matrix.

Yet, as made evident by the listings on the Trading Post, many forum members are dumping their Exo-series, as if they were "hot potatoes".

The way I see it, this phenomenon provides the purchaser, at the expense of the seller, with the opportunity to acquire an Excalibur at previously unheard of "bargain basement" prices.

CB hit it right in the head....I have owned 3 of the exo series and I cant find
one bad thing to say about either,,

Currently I own a exocet and find it to be my favorite yet..
it just fits me. now as for the matrix..
I like the compact design.
that about my extent of what I like about it. now that its been around a while and the new factor has wore off. im thinking I would like a bow like my exocet with those compact limbs..i still would rather use the traditional stock.
and I think the matrix is a little over powered.. so my dream bow (for now)
is a 200lb traditional stocked matrix. "Matrix 325"

I agree, of my three Exo-series, my fav and one I've got the most mileage out of, is my Exomag 200lb. So a 200lb Matrix would be just the ticket. The good news is that my "spidey-sense" tells me that one will make an appearance in the near future. The bad news, is you might have to wait a bit longer for one with a traditional stock.

Do I need a lot of bows!! No but its a want for me, I wish I would never of sold my Vortex because now I want one again but I also would like to add a Phoenix to my collection too. My Matrix will do the job for many years to come but so will the others, to me it's like a gun collection, one is not enough and 10-20 is never to many but being I can no longer shoot vertical bows or high powered rifles or handguns or Black powder I'm replacing my interests in guns with crossbows so ya I have a few more to add on a want not a need  . I'll just hand everything down to my children when I'm gone.
