Nice going!

Based on stories like yours and some of my own experiences over the last 2 seasons, I'm really gaining respect for the effectiveness and flexibility of getting them from the ground.

When I was around 8 I started in on model rockets. Spent a few weeks building my first one. Went to the park, setup the launcher, tested the wind, adjusted the launcher to compensate and fired it off. Chute popped at apex and it floated back down a minute later and landed within a foot of the launcher. Thinking I must be some manner of ballistic savant, I quickly swapped in a new motor, repacked the chute and repeated the above steps. Again the chute popped right on time - and I have no idea where that darn thing came down at! Same for the next half dozen rockets I built - each turned out to be "fire and forget... about trying to find it".

So yeah - I've got a feeling the next one I stick will run the wrong way and then some.

I'm eager to see if I can repeat the experience.

I didn't even have my back to a tree. I was expecting one to approach in front of me, which would have blended me more into the backdrop. This buck came in on my left, parallel with the tree/brush line I was sitting on - so I was more or less silhouetted against the grass instead. Speaks to the effectiveness of the ASAT pattern I guess. What really saved me was I saw him as soon as he stepped into the far field, so I was able to raise the xbow at that time and then not have to move so much as an inch the whole time he approached. As hard as he was studying me any movement would have sent him into the next county. As for the ASAT, it would be the last pattern I would have thought effective - but I bought it based on a ton of reviews and so far I can't complain!
