So most on here are what is a called a day hunter? Well a friend of mine thats a SAR Tech had to find 2 day hunters after thing went wrong. Both after 3 days and night were in not to good shape. The Army has a saying travel light freeze at night.
What's 64 tons, green and black, and can take a deer at 3400m. A leopard tank.

Re: Whats in your stand with you?
I also use the fanny pack method but my jacket can hold almost the same amount of gear.
I believe it is important to limit any disturbance to the area as much as possible, so when i go in(up) at least an hour before the sun has even thought about rising and i am there until it is dark enough that I am starting to see deer shadows everywhere
So with all that background I carry the bare essentials to actually hunt such as extra rifle clip, flashlights, scents, and GPS. As I always plan to be their all day I carry snacks, water, apples and sandwiches. If it is cold, I add a Coleman cooler of hot apple cider(warms you up and attracts the deer as well).
My DaGriz skinner is ready to go on my belt and I always carry an extra light weight vest so I can pull heavier layers off for tracking a kill and they can also be used to mark the recovery site for when I bring in the big gun atv. Never drag what you can load.

Well I guess being called a "day hunter" is better than being called a "night hunter." ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

A lot of good input here guys, I'm glad I asked as it has made me add and subtract a few things. I'll be hunting local on a farm with the the SUV only a 1/2mi away so don't need too much.

Re: Whats in your stand with you?
Most of what has been listed above. Will add one piece of kit I never leave home without; pruning shears.
They are essential gear for turkey hunting, and very handy for deer stand maintenace as well.

Re: Whats in your stand with you?
I have a reputation for carrying a heavy pack.
Range finder
Camera
Granola bar
Water
Calls
Field dressing gloves
Butt out tool
DaGriz Knife
Zip-ties
Flashlight
Large glow stick
Lighter
If I'm out with other people I'll sometimes bring spare snacks and a thermos of tea or extra water.
If it's cool out I'll bring spare gloves, extra warmer hat, neck warmer, hand and body warmers. I'm always warm when I get to the stand but 2 hrs later I'm sometimes ready to pack it in because of the cold so the extra gear keeps me out longer.
In my pants pocket: Cell phone, folding knife
In my jacket pocket or around my neck: Fox 40 whistle

Re: Whats in your stand with you?
I noticed no one else carrying a First Aid Kit, guys and girls please take the time to buy a good kit become familiar with it and keep it in your daypack. I typically hunt 2 to 3 miles deep in the bush and normally walk in alone and hunt alone. I harvested a doe several years back and was cleaning her organs out when I cut the back of my left hand severely with my skinning knife. I didn't have a first aid kit and needless to say I had a heck of a time taking care of my injury and packing my deer out. Get a First Aid Kit ![Exclamation :!:](./images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif)

Re: Whats in your stand with you?
I started carrying a couple of antiseptic wipes, a tube of super glue, roll of gauze, and a small roll of electrical tape a couple of years ago after a similar incident. Lots of uses including closing and dressing a bad cut until you get home.Chris Dillard wrote:I noticed no one else carrying a First Aid Kit, guys and girls please take the time to buy a good kit become familiar with it and keep it in your daypack. I've packed a cut with TP and wrapped it with trail marking tape. I usually carry a few bandaids of different sizes now.
