Anyone buy a 380 and wish they had the 355? or the opposite?

Post by Roadrunnr72 »

I currently have a Phoenix. Great bow, shoots great. But I am looking to upgrade this year. I bought the Phoenix because I was worried about "over bowing" myself. I typically hunt from a tree stand and was worried if I would be able to cock the bow in the stand. Now that I have the experience, I'm not as worried.

I am trying to decide between the 355 and the 380, and leaning toward the 380. I don't think that I would need the new 405. I like to target shoot, but the main purpose is deer hunting.

So, as the title says, "Anyone buy a 380 and wish they had bought the 355, or the opposite, and bought a 355 and wish they had the 380?"

As a side note, I know a guy that has a Barnett and swears by it. I have never seen him shoot it,'but claims it to be quiet, for an X-bow, and can shoot out to 87yrds, with great accuracy, and about half what a 380 would cost. It may be half the money, but the Excal will out live it.

Thanks.....RR

Thanks xcaliber. Even though I have been shooting awhile, I could still dry-fire it. It has been awhile since I have dry-fired my Phoenix. :D

Shoot both if you can. I got the 355 and have no regrets. But I would suggest getting the ADF for it just in case.

You mentioned target shooting, if so look at the 355 or new 330. Both these models might work out better for repetitive shooting. All Matrix will harvest most big game animals. I recently upgraded (Phoenix) for the 355 and happy.

I have the 380 and don't regret it one bit. Honestly you couldn't go wrong with either one.

I bought the Matrix 355, but sold my 2012 Equinox first in order to buy it.

I first wanted the 380, but once I discovered the 355 didn't have the guardian ADF device and nor R.E.D.S. the quest was on. I literally fell into a very inexpensive deal for the Matrix 355 and couldn't be happier.

I have my own system for shooting and never dry fired either crossbow. I also added Danny Miller version of the R.E.D.S. which are only $25.00.

The main reason is I knew I didn't need anymore power/speed and I enjoy the compact design.

I am new to hunting, always wanted to learn. At 51 I figured this old dog could learn some new tricks. I bought the 380 due to the reviews I read, and figured I would never need to upgrade the whole bow. Of course I still bought more toys for it!

I just paid $130 to get my cables and string changed at the ten point factory for my Titan. This needs to be done every
3yrs.

My 355 is the best! I can change my string very easily
in the field.Try that with a compound model!

I mostly just wanted a smaller bow for hunting.
I went for the 380, because although i didn't really want the extra speed than an equinox, I wanted to shoot heavier arrows without losing speed. The 380 gets a respectable 340FPS with a around a 500 grain arrow. Very accurate for longer distance shots.

I have a 380 and it shoots great .I really don't see me getting a smaller bow or needing a bigger one. If anything ever happened to my limbs I would replace them with the ones from a 405 just because. I like a bow that shoots as flat as possible. Get a C2 Crank and you can shoot till you are too old to carry a bow. If I found a deal on a 330 or 355 I would get it for one of my sons but would never trade the 380 for one. If I ever wanted to launch really heavy arrows at anything like elephants or t-rex it is nice to know I have plenty of power
