draw weight

Post by wcbarker »

What is the actual draw weight of the 405, 380 and 355. I know they say 290 for 405 and 260 for 380 but what is it actually.

In the Matrix series it appears that the poundage increases/decreases 20 pounds for every 3/4" mainframe length added or subtracted. One can cut the force/poundage by roughly 50% when using the rope cocker. I know I can't cock my 380 using my fingers, I could with my Equinox.

I would like to know because I have nowhere to try them out and have to order what I want. Cabelas has a 380 but wont let anyone cock it and the dude on the phone says about 50 lbs to cock--------I dont think so.
Cabelas is 2 hours away. It is a lot of cash if I cant draw it.

For what it is worth, I am 5'4", 56 years old, have fairly decent upper body strength. I do however have shoulder and back issues. I have not found the 380 to be too difficult to cock and decock. I have noticed two things however, one is I am pretty much at the end of my rope (no pun intended) when I pull up to cock and two I have a tendency to get hung up on the ADF when I cock it. All that I do is look down and see that I am on the ADF then continue the cocking until it clicks in. I would think that I would have less and less of an issue as I continue to practice with the it.

I find the decocking so much easier and really have not had any issues at all.

All in all if you have reasonable upper body strength I do not believe you will find too much of an issue with the cocking/decocking process.

He is basing this on a 200 lb draw bow using a rope cocker and breaking it down to weight pulled per arm.

Hank has it right in his post.

I can't believe that cabelas expects people to drop over a thousand dollars plus accessories and not let you draw the bow. WOW!!! APPARENTLY INSANITY IS THE NEW NORMAL!!!!!!!

I would try talking nicely to a different employee at Cabelas. Cocking their M380 before your first crossbow purchase would only seem natural. The Cabelas 1 hour from me allows you to shoot their crossbows before purchase.
I can see the employee that you spoke to was not well informed, try another.

I know if I were to have tried that I may have gotten bent over a short distance and then they probably would not have found me until they hit they west coast by the time I stopped flying through the air because of the springback I would have received by not being able to cock that crosssbow the rest of the way. :)
