GT's

Post by strum »

I put together a set of lazer lls yesterday using my JOJAN.
I know their not the quality of the master arrow makers but im happy with them . now I need some snow to melt to see how they fly.
I just weighed them and I found (if my scale is right) that im getting some variance 296gr-298gr I guess that's what I get for not weighing each component.

Im no master either (of my own domain) but I'd say a sub 1% variance is pretty damn good.

Something I do to get my weight closer is to unscrew the field points and weigh and record each arrows weight. Then weigh and record each field point and match the lightest field point with the heaviest shaft and so on. It helps if you have a lot of field points but you'll be able to shrink the variance just by doing this.

I shoot for +/- .5G variance. I sort the components and assemble the arrows with the exception of the rear insert. I file down the font of the rear insert to get the weight I want.

I suffer fom tinkerits and this is certainly not necessary or MOC.

I can still remove my inserts because I used the Blue Ferrel-tite hot melt.
when you get right down to the nitty gritty of it..do I have front inserts heaver or is it the rear ones ?.. are the shaft all the same..did I use the same amount of hot glue? what about the vanes?
im thinking if I just want to get picky about it I should remove the rear inserts and take a smige off of the heavy ones. on second thought ..im going to fly these babies

I am sure that they will fly great. One of the bet things you can do is to experiment with different glues. I settled on LocTite super glue gel.

One thing I do to pick up any excess glue is to swipe the side of the freshly glued vane with a Q-tip. I slowly roll the Q-tip as I go own the side of the vane. This leaves a nice smooth finish. I also put a small drop of glue on both the leading and trailing edge of the vanes. It helps prevent them from being torn off when they get buried in a target.

Bob I agree about the glue...
I started using the gorilla glue blue top a couple of years ago ..
so far I have never found a glue that works better..
I put 3 to 4 dots on the vane then use a toothpick to distribute it.
not saying im perfect but I don't get much if any glue spilling over the edges .
I found that I used to use way to much. now im a little stingy with it :D
last summer I shot an arrow into my bag and it hit a soft spot so I had to pull it (rip it) out the back side ..I was thinking ..that's it for those vanes..
amazingly the arrow pulled through and the vanes stayed on. I was sold on the GG from that time on. and yep the pic doesn't show it but I do put a tiny drop on the vane ends. but im not sure its needed with this stuff..
now im sounding like Gorilla Glue salesman

Hey Bob, I agree completely with what you say. I was making a suggestion because his arrows were already built. Honestly, they look great and if you're not bitten with the tinkering bug, like it seems many of us are, just shoot and enjoy.
