arrow wrap length?

Post by Deaf jeff »

I am going to put wraps on my arrows(first time) this year. i have gotten some good info from a fellow member and going to use the shrink type, but I am unsure of the length to use. from what I have found and read online, says the length is more a personal choice, but I am wondering what length are all you experts are using? is there a certain length that works best on crossbow arrows?

I used to use full length 7 inch also but they're much too long and look odd with the short vanes in my opinion. So I now use the 4 inch wraps I believe.

Wraps look great ....for a while. Their looks quickly deteriorates with use and they make refletching harder as well. Reflecting just one vane with em is difficult if not impossible; the shrink-ons will slip if pull-out pressure is applied. Moreover, they add weight to the back of your arrow. So if your FOC is already marginal that may put it over the edge. Having done the gamut of wraps and cresting I'm into plane Jane arrows for shooting...and a few crested ones (less weight) for hunting.

Jeff:

Wraps can be used at any length. Compound arrows are a bit different and offer more variety. However for Crossbow arrows, I try to stay 7"in. or less. 5-1/2" being the most used. When you get used to using them and playing around, Practice, you will find that stripping and refletching can be done quite fast. As far as adding more weight to the rear and offsetting the FOC, it is not enough weight to matter. Especially when using brass up front.
Think "Lumenoks" still give you weight forward and weigh 20 + gr more. And will still smoke Bullseye out to 50 yds. It's all about choice. Visibility, personalization, and has the added feature of better fletch adhesion, much better than cresting, which I also have done much. But use your own judgement and originality and make some arrows personal for you! :) Your arrows will still fly like darts if done correctly.

to inhale.

Oh I've noticed.... I was reading the Boofest thread then saw his posts and thought maybe I don't want to go lol.

Also just thought of this... why worry about what a wrap is made out of... When the glue itself is pretty potent lol.
