masking scents...

Post by hockeyfodder »

Hey All:

I just saw a TV commercial for a "scent free" Febreeze. It the first time I have seen the scent free stuff.

I just wondered if anyone had tried an experiment with it.

It would seem to me that a piece of fabric using the Febreez placed in an area with deer in it (maybe during the summer long before season) would be a good experiment. Maybe watch to see if they react when they walk downwind of it.

I just wondered if any of the forum members have had any experience with it.

I tried deer smoke screen this past season. use it just like incents. it is smoke, just like what comes from my chimney. it helps cover the smells associated with me and my atv which I have to drive right up to my blinds (I am disabled) its is not meant to attract deer rather it covers your scent. I saw more deer and shot my largest buck on thanksgiving afternoon 2013, been hunting this property for 21 years.

hockeyfodder,
"deer smoke screen" is the exact name. it comes from texas. I followed the directions and lit it when i left my house and drove about half mile to my blind . in my area almost every house burns wood for something so its an everyday smell that the deer are very accustomed to so its not a new scent that that makes them uneasy. just my opinion........here is the website

Wash your camo (inside out to preserve camo pattern) with nothing but baking soda added to the water, hang dry, and place a cedar or pine branch in your scent free camo bag.

Don't waste your money on any store bought cover scents or laundry detergents. However, I do like to use scent eliminating body soap, shampoo, and deodorant.

Best cover scent I ever used, and had deer within a foot of me was when I hunted on a cattle farm and I would leave all my gear in the barn stinking of manure, something the deer were used too since the cattle roamed the woods.
