The new rig

Post by Species8472 »

So I picked up my bare bones Mega 405 on Sunday. Took it completely apart, cleaned every fastener and then applied Loc-tite Blue and reassembled. Put the string on and set brace height to 3/4 inch off of the REDS. Cocked the bow and left it for 24 hours. After uncocking the next day the brace height is now 3/8 inch off of REDS

Options are as follows:

- Boo String

- Vortex Viper XBR scope - 2.5-10x by 44mm, 30mm tube, illuminated:

scope is back ordered and expected in early June

- TriggerTech Matrix Hunter 2.5 Trigger

- Arrows:
- BE Zombie Slayer 0.001" arrows
- cut to 19 inches
- lumenocks
- 92 gr insert
- Blazer Vanes
- Solid 125 grain Legend broadheads
- Total weight with head - 440 grains

- Solid 125 grain Legend broadheads:

Put the string on and set brace height to 3/4 inch off of the REDS.
A 3/4" is a good brace height, but it should be measured from where the riser meets the rail back to the string. That should leave 1/4" (about 2 string widths) between the string and the REDS.

Your going to love your 405, I know I do mine.

After sitting cocked for 24 hours the string was about 3/8 inch from REDS. I figure after 20-30 shots it will likely stretch a bit more and should be just about right.

If you take a few shots, if it's still going to stretch it will do so a lot quicker. So you'll see if has stretched too much and be able to adjust so it won't rest on the REDS overnight.

Just a thought.

Thanks for your help Don,

You'll be able to see it first hand in July at Boofest. Really looking forward to that scope - it looks awesome on paper.

Also looking forward to bidding on those Dagriz knives.

Awesome set up. Why the 19" zombies and not 18"? Interesting scope, what's the price range? And final question, "HOW ARE YOU GONNA WAIT TILL JUNE TO SHOOT THAT BOW???!!!"

Not gonna wait until June. For the time being it is wearing a Twilight DLX that I removed from my exomax. Once the new scope arrives I will switch out and sell the max with the Twilight on it.

Scope is a cadillac - $699. I figure if I'm going top of the line on the bow I might as well go top on everything. This will be my duty bow for the foreseeable future.

The 19 inch arrow was based on adding a few more grains to the arrow and the increased powerstroke of the 405 compared to the 380. This way the arrow should sit about the same relative to the stirrup. I wanted the arrow to extend further into the stirrup space as I am paranoid about forgetting to remove the bolt before uncocking - I have done this twice in the last 5 years with my max. No injuries as I was able to re-cock bow before sticking my toes - but unpleasant and two pairs of Muck boots with holes.

Yeah, seems pretty dumb, but i suspect it happens a lot more than one thinks and people are scared to admit to it for fear of looking foolish. Kinda like dry-firing - I can honestly say in 20 years I have never dry-fired either a vertical or horizontal bow but for some reason I seem to have an issue with my toes.
