Nice catch!
Thankfully we have all open water now here in southern Ohio.
(planning on trying to catch a few stocked trout today)

Gotta love perch fishing through the ice! St Clair is a bit too far for me so I head to Lake Simcoe.
There's usually a few of them around...

Decent eating indeed and are likely the best tasting freshwater fish in North America as the meat is very sweet and mild tasting, providing you ice the fish ASAP. Many people refuse to spend a few bucks on ice during the warm months and the quality of fish degrades quickly in warm temps.vixenmaster wrote:I have never caught one but have heard they are decent eatin. $11.99 / lb in many grocery stores!

Yes the bests freshwater fish!! Nothin like a big ole basket out of the fryer! Some stores here sell EM frozen fillets ,with skin on and all belly fat for 13.99 lb. ...in 2008/09 winter during layoff, I froze 42 bags of clean filets @ 1 to 1 1/2 bs each.. I lived on the lake ....amazing what you see coming thru the holes sometimes..and the occasional Muskys who swim by. Y'all southerners outta try it! I'd love to make Simcoe trip one day!! Really gotta sift thru the dinks last few years around here.a keeper every 6 fish. Catch 100 to keep 25 or 30. Still, nonstop action with 2 lines on a bucket makes 20 degrees feel like 70 ..Rates right up there!!! It's the season in between Deer and spring Turkey!

Managed to get out and try the trout with the fly rod (2wt - ultralight outfit) this evening. Not a huge catch, but enough for a meal.
