New 380 owner

Post by stoneycreekhunter »

I went to shooters choice this weekend and ended up purchasing a matrix 380. :D

Initially my plan was to get the 405....but it felt bulkier and more top heavy than the 380 and an extra 25 fps wasnt going to bother me. I know i made the right choice.

They gave me $125 off for the scope, and i ended up upgrading to a leupold crossbones scope and rings.

Upgraded the trigger to a triggertech matrix hunter 2.5 too!!

Hopefully ill have her by the end of next week.....fully assembled, centered, and ready to go!!!

A few minor accessories...and bring on deer season!

stoneycreekhunter: Congrats on the new bow. I got one very similar to yours not too long ago and I'm very pleased with it. I'm sure you will be too. Hunt safe.

Congratulations on the new Matrix 380. I am contemplating getting a Matrix 405 or the 380 as well. I am back and forth on which to one get.... If you tried how was cocking the 405 compared to the 380?

I was actually suprised how easy the 380 was to cock. Unless you have a shoulder injury, i dont think its going to be an issue.

The 405 did not seem as well balanced as the 380. It felt heavy, unbalanced, and bulkier. feel/comfort is the most important thing to me....especially at 15 ft up in a tree.

If you think the 405 is heavy and unbalanced, I assume you don't own any EXO series Excaliburs.

I own both versions and I although I love my 405, because it is compact, I find it feels too light, even though it only weighs a few ounces less than my Exomax

Being used to the longer and wider EXO series, I find it will take me a while and some practice to be able to shoot my 405 as accurately as I can my older models.

The 405 is a feather compared to some of the old Wheels, Cams and Cables I have shot in the past !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a little easier to accidentally cant a Matrix due to the shorter limbs...it puts the weight of the limbs closer to the center which means it rotates on the axis (the rail) quicker and easier than an Exo series. The shorter stock has the same effect on the front-to-rear axis. I love the feel and balance of my 380, and it handles considerably quicker than the wide bows. There can be a down side to shorter/lighter/quicker handling, but I think the 380 pretty much nailed it for an all-around well balanced bow. I havnt handled a 405 so I cant comment on how it feels.

I just taped (double-sticky) a short level tube to the front of mine so I know if I'm canting left or right. Maybe after I'm more experienced with the bow, I won't need the level.
