I thought I read that the flemish style string compared to the factory string actually slows the arrow down on the Matrix style bows. :?

It doesn't have to but if an endless loop string and a Flemish string both have the same number of strands the Flemish will be slower by a couple of ft/sec. Danny Miller uses 28 strands of Dynaflight for the factory endless loop string and 24 for his Flemish. The Flemish is faster by a couple of ft/sec.
Because the loops of a Flemish string is comprised of the full number of strands and there are a large number of twists that act as shock absorbers you can reduce the number of strands safely.
