Saturdays Tom
Decided to try the shotgun this year for something different. This is the first year hunting turkeys without the xbow in 9 years.
Got to my acreage at 4:30 this morning and met a buddy there for a hunt. We were surprised on the walk in by a stampede of 13 neighbours cattle that had found a hole in the fence. Got the plumbing working better than a Tim Hortons coffee, lol. We kept going and I set my friend up on a fencerow where turkeys like to travel hoping he would get a shot at a bird after a bit of a dry spell. He had his xbow and I a shotgun. I setup my blind approx 200 yds away in the field down in sort of a gully that runs parallel with the old rail tract and hardwoods. After getting settled in the birds started talking as the light crept in. I heard atleast 4 different birds in the woods all various distances, the closest sounding approx 150 yds away. I decided to exit the blind and move into the bush facing away from the field. After a while the gobbling stopped and I only called a wee bit with no real response. Sitting there contemplating my next move when a crow sitting in the tree above me CAW-CAWed and a turkey sounded off what sounded 40 yds behind me. I slowly turned my head to see a Tom in strut coming my way down the old rail tract. I s-l-o-w-l-y got turned and my barrel up aimed at a point where I anticipated he would come (only clear lane too). What seemed like an eternity finally ended when he stepped into my bead (25 yds) and a Win 3" #6 shell knocked him down at 6:15 am. Went over to have a grateful moment and found an old deer shed 1' from his head. 21.0 lbs, 7.5" beard, 1 1/8" & 1.25" spurs....nice and pointy.

I enjoyed reading your story, and seeing that beautiful tom just topped it off!
*PRETTY IN PINK, DEADLY IN CAMO!
*In the fall I get to kill em in the rut, but in the spring I get to watch em strut.
*You can take the girl outta woods, but you can't take the addiction outta the girl!
*Can't kill anything sitting on the couch.
